Lisa M. Given received her Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario, and is currently Director of the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM), Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies (Faculty of Education) and Associate Adjunct Professor to the Humanities Computing Program (Faculty of Arts) at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. She is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Qualitative Methods, and has published numerous papers in her area of research (human information behaviors) and on the topic of qualitative methods. She is a member of Canada’s Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics, Social Sciences & Humanities Research Ethics Special Working Committee, which is currently reviewing Canada’s Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. Dr. Given currently teaches graduate-level courses in research methods, regularly speaks on issues related to research ethics and qualitative methods, and teaches a number of workshops offered annually as part of the IIQM’s Thinking Qualitatively seminar series.
