Introduction to the Student Study Site

Web-Based Student Study Site

This student study site is intended to enhance students' understanding of Educational Research: Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed Approaches 3/e by Burke Johnson and Larry Christensen. All of the materials on this site are especially geared toward maximizing the potential for students to learn and enhancing classroom discussion.

The Web-Based Student Study Site contains E-flashcards, Web quizzing for students, recommended Web sites for further research, journal articles related to educational research, an annotated report demonstrating how to write a research report in APA style, interactive concept maps, an SPSS data set, and more.

Chapter Specific Resources

Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives created by the authors are provided for students to reference as they study the materials in the textbook.

Lecture Notes

Lecture notes have been provided so that students can read over the key information in each chapter.

Answers to Review Questions

The authors have provided suggested answers for the Review Questions that are found throughout each chapter.

Web Quizzing

The web quizzes for students consist of multiple choice questions to enhance students' understanding of the material. Answers are provided for each question.

Flashcards

The E-Flashcards are a tool for students to enhance their understanding of key terms outlined in the chapters. E-Flashcards may also be used as a study tool for exams and quizzes.

Web Resources

The Internet is a powerful learning tool that can be used as a supplement to course material. We have therefore provided relevant Web links for each chapter so that students can explore course topics beyond the classroom.

General Resources

Interactive Concept Maps

Interactive, expandable concept maps are provided for each chapter. These clickable, downward-branching maps present each chapter's content in a hierarchical structure so that students can visualize the relationships among different concepts. Each map is also provided in PDF format.

Learning from SAGE Research Articles

Full text research articles are presented for each chapter so that students can identify the key topics covered. Moreover, the articles are accompanied by questions to help students evaluate each piece, as well as links to the journals in which the articles were originally published.

How to Write a Research Report in APA Style

For students who are new to using APA style, we have provided a sample annotated report for guidance. The purpose of each component of a research report—from the abstract to the conclusion—is highlighted and explained for the student, and the appropriate APA style is clearly demonstrated.

How to Read a Research Article

This guide is designed to help students read, understand, and evaluate empirical research articles. Students are presented with questions to help guide their reading and an explanation of each section of a standard research article.

Bonus Materials

This section of the study site contains additional tables, figures, and Web resources; general writing tips from the author; a research methods quiz; and an SPSS data set.

Glossary

We have included a downloadable, PDF version of the full glossary as a convenient reference for students.

Used together, all of these Web resources should create a comprehensive study package for students as they supplement their learning of Educational Research: Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed Approaches 3/e.
