"Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks is the one book I would most recommend to inexperienced academic authors in the humanities or social sciences who seriously wish to see their scholarly work in print. Other books may be quicker to read, but I doubt if any would ultimately prove to be as effective."

Steven E. Gump

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

"Thorough, beautifully organized, and humane.  This is a welcome light on a dark process."

Kevin Peterson

University of Massachusetts, Lowell

"Belcher's book uses an interactive format to help writers develop a manuscript for submission from a pre-existing text such as a dissertation/thesis... When I used this book to teach writing for publication, doctorial students responded enthusiastically to the format and tone, which bolstered their confidence and enabled them to confront displacement activities."

Mary Jane Curry

Journal of English for Academic Purposes

"While addressing the sometimes-unsearchable field of scholarly writing and publishing, Wendy Belcher uses unpretentious, contemporary, and even witty prose that is simultaneously captivating and informative."

Belcher's book is extremely thorough and well organized; it provides a honest approach to a difficult process; it perfectly fits the semester schedule; and her clear, concise style makes it a pleasure to read. The book is a resource students will be able to use repeatedly for different projects as they build constructive writing habits.

A great guide to help graduate students be very productive in a semester and some guidance for junior faculty as well...plus spurred me on to completion!

I liked the way that the book was structured. It offered a combination of practical advice and counseling about writing. I used if for an undergraduate course, and while it had some problems for this audience, I would certainly use it again as a text for a graduate course.

Although I didn't adopt this text for my course--it wasn't a good fit--I strongly recommended to my department head and a colleague that we design a doctoral seminar around this text. Belcher provides an excellent framework, based on her many years of teaching a doctoral-level writing seminar, for introducing doctoral students to the scholarly-manuscript-creation process. I believe this text is unmatched for this purpose.
