In my opinion, I honestly recommend Creswell's Book on "Designing and Conducting Mixed Methods Research". This book is essentially designed to harness students and researchers with the skills to know the real nature of mix-method research. The book is helpful for the purpose to conduct a type of research with multi-methods and cross-level tools. This book takes the journey of qualitative and quantitative methods and highlight the difficulties in mixed-method research. This book may be an alternative to Charles Teddlie and Abbas Tashakkori Book on mixed-methods.

The idea of the book is to give an introduction to mixed methods research by giving the reader knowledge about what is incorporated in this definition, its foundations, different designs, data collection, analysis and evaluation. It is written for individuals who wants to learn about mixed methods as well as for graduate students. The intent with this book is very ambitious and it grasps a lot within this area. It is written clearly and in a pedagogical manner by both using theory as well as illustrating practical examples. The challenges as well as the advantages are described and one example of this is where the authors write about the foundations of mixed methods. Here they give good examples of how to apply world views to every chosen mixed methods design. This is a very important aspect in all research and is of good use for readers. Chapter 3 and 4 is significant design chapters. These chapters describes different research designs within mixed methodology and is written in an excellent way describing the purpose of each design, when it is suitable, the philosophical assumptions, strengths and weakness as well as alternatives. The figures in this chapter are illustrating prototypical versions of each design. The prototypical versions together with the structured text will give beginners a possibility to choose a specific design in an easy way, by just reading this chapter. Chapter 3 is best described as an introducing and theoretical chapter, while chapter 4 is a follow up by giving concrete examples where the reader can see the application of each design in reality. Furthermore the following chapters gives the reader a possibility to understand the details in each design, for example how to state specific research questions, how to proceed when collecting data within each design as well as how to interpret and analyse it. At last the reader get knowledge about how to write and evaluate mixed methods research. Regarding the writing there are good examples on how to structure a paper, a proposal or a thesis. Finally there are only a few pages about evaluating mixed methodology. That is a weakness in this book. This could have been illustrated more. However, an experienced researcher knows this but the beginner has to read more about the strengths and challenges in each design or in other research methodology text books. To conclude this is a very well written book and the authors succeed to make the complexity of mixed methodology to become a lot easier to comprehend and realise. To me the suggested audience is a utopia as I think that the reader will need a deeper kind of knowledge in research methodology before designing a mixed method study. This book covers a broad spectrum including many different fields and disciplines. In the end of each chapter a summary is presented. The text in each chapter is illustrated with tables and figures which facilitates a lot for the reader. This is an important pedagogical point. I will be happy to recommend this book to colleagues as well as PhD-students.

An axcellent book, well and clearly written. I'm sure it is now the 'classic' text on mixed methods. Therein lies the danger. Mixed methods has come to mean mixing traditional quantititative and traditional qualitative methods to the exclusion of other alternatives, for example case-based quantititave approaches like fuzzy set analysis, Bayesian statistics, neural netwroks, data mining, longitudinal designs, hierarchical datasets. All these can be mixed in various ways.
