This includes social media's value in scanning, follow-up communication, and utility during a crisis response. The role of social media in scanning is discussed in detail. There is also an extened discussion of choosing social media channels for the crisis response.

The crisis response and postcrisis chapters consider the role of memorial in crisis communication. The postcrisis communication focuses on the online memorials and what they mean for crisis communication.

Message mapping has been intergrated into Chapters 5 and 8 to demonstrate their value to crisis communication. The new material also explains the importance of preparing stakeholders in addition to preparing the organization for the crisis.
