Web-Based Study Site

This Web-based study site is intended to enhance students' understanding of Language Arts: Integrating Skills for Classroom Teaching by Mildred R. Donoghue. Please note that all the materials on this site are especially geared toward maximizing the potential for students to learn and enhance class discussion.

The Web-Based Study Site contains E-flashcards, practice quizzes for students, recommended Web sites, chapter summaries, and lesson plan projects.

Chapter Specific Resources

Chapter Summary

Chapter summaries are taken from the book for easy reference to important chapter topics to better help in studying the material.

Flashcards

The E-Flashcards are a tool for students to enhance their understanding of key terms outlined in the chapters. E-Flashcards may also be used as a study tool for exams and quizzes.

Quizzes

The web quiz for students provides multiple choice and true/false questions to enhance students' understanding of the material. Answers are provided for each question.

Practical Instructional Activities and Ideas

These activities and ideas are taken from the book for easy accessibility, and some additional suggestions are provided to inspire creativity and to provide helpful resources to students.

Lesson Plan Projects

Each chapter includes a lesson plan project for students to create, which is valuable for portfolios and will help them to practice creating lessons based on the standards.

General Resources

Learning from SAGE Research Articles

Full text research articles are presented by chapter so students can identify the key topics covered. Moreover, the articles are accompanied by questions to help students evaluate each piece, as well as links to the journals in which the articles were originally published.

Link to NCTE/IRA Standards for the English Language Arts

The NCTE/IRA Standards are important for students to know and remember, and are provided in full form on the NCTE web site.

Links to State Standards

A link to the language arts standards for each state is provided for easy accessibility for students.

Web Resources

The Internet is a powerful learning tool and can be used as a supplement to course material. Web resources have been provided on the following topics: teaching language and the English language arts; teaching children as language learners and thinkers; formal and authentic assessment; integrating language across curriculum; teaching word recognition skills and vocabulary development; teaching reading principles, approaches, comprehension, and fluency; teaching reading and children's literature; teaching the writing process, genres, and motivational strategies; teaching handwriting, keyboarding, spelling, and grammar; teaching writers' workshop; teaching listening and speaking; and teaching creative drama.
