David Keepnews

David M. Keepnews, PhD, JD, RN, FAAN is an associate professor in the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing at Hunter College, City University of New York. He also holds faculty appointments in the School of Nursing at the University of Washington and the Program in Epidemiology and Health Services Research at Weill College of Graduate Medical Sciences, Cornell University.

Dr. Keepnews has previously served as director of policy development for the New York Academy of Medicine, director of policy for the American Nurses Association, regulatory policy specialist for the California Nurses Association and assistant regional counsel for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Region IX. He has practiced as a staff nurse in psychiatric emergency, inpatient, community mental health and substance abuse settings in San Francisco and New York.

Dr. Keepnews has written and spoken widely on a range of topics related to nursing and health policy. He holds a PhD in Social Policy from the Heller Graduate School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He received a Master of Science degree from Excelsior College School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the New York Academy of Medicine.
