JOURNAL OF FAMILY NURSING - INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

Journal of Family Nursing (http://jfnsagepub.com) is owned by Sage Publications, Inc. Janice M. Bell, RN, PhD, (University of Calgary) is the founding editor of this journal. The first issue of this quarterly journal began in February 1995.

The Journal of Family Nursing is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes scholarly work on nursing research, practice, education and policy issues related to families in health and illness. The mission of the journal is to extend understanding about the relationships between families, health, illness, and health care with a goal of transforming nursing practice with famlies. In addition, appropriate articles of empirical and theoretical analyses on the subject of family health will be published. Both "family as context" and "family as unit" is represented. Additionally, there is a strong mandate to represent cultural diversity and families across the life cycle. Interdisciplinary and collaborative perspectives are encouraged, as are international contributions.

The JFN received its first Impact Factor in the Thomson-Reuters Scientific Journal Citation Reports 2007. JFN has a 2011 Impact Factor of 0.955 and is ranked 41/95 in Nursing (Social Science); 45/97 in Nursing (Science); and 24/38 in Family Studies. Papers will be selected for their scientific merit and creative treatment of significant issues in the field. One of the objectives of the journal is to establish a forum in which practitioners, educators, and researchers in various clinical specialties and fields can extend the lively debate and begin a more critical dialogue about the family in health and illness.

Articles should be 15-25 typewritten (12-point Times New Roman font), double-spaced pages (not including reference list and tables). Abstracts should be no longer than 150 words. For style, follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition) and provide DOI numbers for references. If a DOI is not available, then provide a URL.

Each journal uses it’s own blinding protocol. For the Journal of Family Nursing, remove the name of the university/institution from which ethical approval was received and substitute a general statement instead. Remove the full citation information for all authors' previous publications. Instead, use the protocol of "Author Blinded and year of publication ONLY" in both the citations in text as well as the reference list. Remove all other identifying information about the publication. For example, the following reference would be identified only as Author Blinded (2010) in both the citation in text as well as the reference list:

Marshall, A., Bell, J.M., & Moules, N.J. (2010). Beliefs, suffering, and healing: A clinical practice model
for families experiencing mental illness. Perspectives in Psychiatric Care, 46(3),182-96. doi:0.1111/j.1744-6163.2010.00259.x
