"The articles, and indeed notes and reviews, are well written, lively and highly topical. It is what a proper scholarly journal should aspire to - international, interdisciplinary and interesting. It is a journal not just for the prison "train spotters" but for all those who recognise the centrality of discourses on punishment and social control to an understanding who and what we are in the 21st Century." Kieran McEvoy

"The legitimacy of punishment, the relationship between prisons, market society and social order: all these are in question, and Punishment & Society promises to be the journal of choice for those who have these questions at heart." Michael Ignatieff, author of A Just Measure of Pain: Penitientiaries in the Industrial Revolution
