Description:

TITLE CHANGE: PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Criminology & Criminal Justice is a leading, peer reviewed journal of original research and thinking in the field. Crime and justice research is booking across the globe and the journal seeks to reflect the vibrancy of the discipline of criminology throughout the UK and internationally. The journal publishes scholarly articles on all areas of crime and criminal justice: from policing to sentencing, community penalties and prisons; and from crime prevention to victims of crime.

The study of criminology and criminal justice has expanded enormously in recent years and together they provide fruitful areas of research and thinking.

Crime and justice research is booming across the globe and the re-titled journal seeks to reflect the vibrancy of the discipline of criminology throughout the UK and internationally. Criminology's current popularity may owe something to its acting as a lightning rod for understanding of many of the pressing concerns and issues of our times. In praising criminology for its centrality to the key debates for social scientists and citizens in the new millennium, Zygmunt Bauman has observed that we learn most about things when they go wrong. Criminology and Criminal Justice aims to provide an international forum dedicated to critical debate in these important areas.

The shift in the title from Criminal Justice to Criminology and Criminal Justice does not mean that earlier interests in criminal justice and penal theory and practice will be neglected. However in the light of its role as official journal of the British Society of Criminology, the change in title does represent a broadening out of the journal's focus into

* issues of offending and responses to crime around the world;

* original conceptual articles on crime and its control;

* theoretically-informed empirical studies, including those of policing and justice policy making and policy transfer;

* debates about the public role of criminology and criminologists.

The journal is international in focus and encourages submissions from any part of the globe.

“This journal addresses key issues facing the future of criminal justice, and will be a major venue for presenting the best evidence on those issues as it emerges from new research.”

Lawrence W. Sherman, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

"Internationally, criminal justice is one of the fastest growing areas of social science. This journal, with its first-rate editorial board and impressive record of scholarship, has rapidly become a must-read for any scholar interested in international or comparative criminologyiminal justice." Todd Clear, Distinguished Professor of Law and Police Science, John Jay College, City University of New York, USA

"In its broad coverage of a broad field, and in its publication of articles by criminologists of distinction from across the world, Criminology and Criminal Justice,' formerly Criminal Justice, has established itself nationally and internationally as one of the leading journals in the discipline." Professor Paul Rock, London School of Economics, UK
