EDITOR: Christina Haas Kent State University
Editorial Assistant: John Oddo Kent State University
Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

Editorial Policy Statement: Written Communication is an international multidisciplinary journal that publishes theory and research in writing from fields including anthropology, English, history, journalism, linguistics, psychology, and rhetoric. Among topics of interest are the nature of writing ability; the assessment of writing; the impact of technology on writing (and the impact of writing on technology); the social and political consequences of writing and writing instruction; nonacademic writing; literacy (including workplace and emergent literacy and the effects of classroom processes on literacy development); the social construction of knowledge; the nature of writing in disciplinary and professional domains; cognition and composing; the structure of written text and written communication; relationships among gender, race, class and writing; and connections among writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Also of interest are review essays and reviews of research on topics important to writing researchers. No worthy topic related to writing is beyond the scope of the journal. Published articles will collectively represent a wide range of methodologies, but the methodology of each study must be handled expertly.

Guidelines for Submission: Prospective authors are strongly urged to acquaint themselves with previously published issues of the journal, particularly the Editor's Comments in Volume 11, Number 1 (January 1994). Submitting an essay indicates that the work reported has not been previously published, that the essay--in present or revised form--is not being considered for publication in other journals or in edited volumes, and that the author(s) will not allow the essay to be so considered before notification in writing of an editorial decision by Written Communication. Submission should generally not exceed 9,000 words and must follow the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition).

All authors should (a) include with each copy an abstract of 100-150 words; (b) select 5 to 7 keywords (which do not appear in the title) to facilitate electronic search; and (c) provide a cover page which includes the title of the submission, author names(s), institutional affiliations(s), mailing address(es), and 3- to 4-sentence biographical statements for each author. Author name(s) should not appear anywhere else in the manuscript. Note that the entire manuscript should be single-sided and double-spaced, including the abstract, block quotations, tables, figures, notes, and references. Written Communication does not normally return submitted manuscripts to authors.

Domestic submissions: Mail four (4) copies to Editor, Written Communication, in care of Kent State University, Department of English, P.O. Box 5190, Kent, OH 44242. An electronic version is needed only if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. Faxed manuscripts will not be accepted.
International submissions only: Mail one (1) copy of the manuscript to the above address by airmail. Send an electronic version as an attachment by e-mail. Written Communication: +1-330-672-4512 (tel); +1-330-672-3152 (fax); chaas@kent.edu or oazeri@kent.edu (e-mail).
