International Social Work aims to include stimulating material that contributes to the journal's goal of promoting global, regional and comparative perspectives and further debate on the nature of international social work. Contributions are welcome from any country, field or setting but should
" address global, regional or comparative perspectives in social work, social welfare or community development;
" take account of the journal's international readership and contextualise material accordingly;
" be consistent with human rights and social justice values.
International Social Work adheres to a rigorous double-blind reviewing policy in which the identity of both the reviewer and author are always concealed from both parties.
International Social Work is hosted on ScholarOne™ Manuscripts, a web based online submission and peer review system - SAGEtrack. Please read the Manuscript Submission guidelines below, and then simply visit http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/isw to login and submit your article online.
IMPORTANT: Please check whether you already have an account in the system before trying to create a new one. If you have reviewed or authored for the journal in the past year it is possible that you will have had an account created.
All papers must be submitted via the online system. If you would like to discuss your paper prior to submission, please email: isw@dur.ac.uk .
Manuscript Submission Guidelines
Submissions must be in English and approximately 4,000 words long (no more than 5,000 words including references), typewritten and double-spaced throughout including notes and references, with at least 3cm margins on all sides. An abstract of no more than 50 words describing the article's main findings and conclusions must be included; this will be translated into French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic if the article is published. Please include 4-6 key words.
In addition to full-length articles, the journal is interested in brief notes of up to 2,000 words, on topics such as reports of research in progress, examples of unresolved problems, descriptions of policy, and current programmes that would be of interest to the international community.
Titles and subtitles should be clear and brief. Quotations over 40 words should be displayed. Notes are indicated by numbers in the text and printed at the end of the article. Tables and figures should have short titles; please give sources and indicate their placement in the text. Please supply figures as camera ready artwork.
Omit points in abbreviations such as USA; use the fewest numerals possible in dates and page numbers (e.g. 42-5, 1991-2). Write dates as 22 November 1998; spell out numbers from one to nine, but use numerals for 10 and over, for percentages and for all tables.
Give citations in the text as Brown (1998: 63-4), Brown and Gutierrez (1991, 1995). Use 'et al.' for works with more than two authors, but give all surnames in the references list. Use 'a', 'b', etc. for different works by the same author in a single year: Gutierrez (1997a). All the cited references should appear in full at the end of the article, using this style:
" Articles in journals: Ramon, S. and S. Pathak (1997) 'Recent Trends in European Social Work', International Perspectives 8(1): 3-5.
" Books: Pathak, S. (1983) Social Welfare Resources. Delhi: Suruchi Publications.
" Contributions to books: Hill, A. (1962) 'The Administrative Structure', in C. Drake and P. Omari (eds) Social Work in West Africa, pp. 62-89. Accra: Ghana Publishing Co.
" Unpublished works: Cernely, S. (1998) 'En la busqueda de caminos para el mañana', Younghusband Lecture, 36th IASSW Congress, Washington DC, 20 July.
Articles should be supplied with references to the author's identity removed so the article is ready for anonymous refereeing. Articles will be considered on the understanding that they are not simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.
Book reviews should be sent to:
