Time & Society

Editors: Robert Hassan The University of Melbourne, Australia
Hartmut Rosa Friedrich-Schiller University, Jena, Germany
Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

Articles should be sent as email attachment in Microsoft Word format (no PDF). They should be double spaced throughout with generous margins.

There is no absolute limit on length, but 7000 words, including notes and references, is a useful upper limit to aim for. Book reviews should be 800-1000 words for a standard review, or 2000-2500 words for a long review (usually of several books). Please contact the Book Review Editor for more information.

Each paper should be accompanied by: (a) title of paper and abstract of 100 words maximum; (b) author's full name; a biographical note of no more than 70 words which includes institutional address, e-mail address if applicable, telephone and fax numbers; key words (5 maximum); and an indication of which disciplines are most likely to be interested.

Tables and figures (camera-ready copy) should be presented on separate sheets of paper at the end of the article, and should carry short, descriptive titles. Please indicate their position in the text.

Referencing. Use the Harvard-style system: surname, date and page no. cited in the text; with an alphabetically ordered end list, headed References, and typed double-spaced:

(a) Giddens, A. (1984) The Constitution of Society. Cambridge: Polity Press.

(b) Kristeva, J. (1981) 'Women's Time', Signs 7(1): 13-35.

(c) Jahoda, M. (1988) 'Time: A Social Psychological Perspective', in M. Young and T. Schuller (eds) The Rhythms of Society, pp. 154-72. London/New York: Routledge.

When citing a new edition of a previously published work, include both dates, e.g. Durkheim (1912/1976), in text and references.

Essential notes should be indicated by superscript numbers in the text, and presented at the end of the text before the references.

Authors are asked to bear in mind the inter-disciplinary readership of the journal and to avoid as much as possible the use of technical language and discipline-specific jargon.

Authors are sent proofs for checking and correction, and will be given a set number of accesses to their article on SAGE Journals Online, similar to the set number of paper offprints they currently receive, with the ability to print off a set number of copies of their article, as well as the opportunity to purchase additional paper copies if they wish. We will continue to send complimentary copies of the journal in which their articles appear, in addition to the online access to pdfs.

Manuscripts and other correspondence can be sent to either editor, but it is suggested that authors whose first language is not English should contact Prof. Dr. Hartmut Rosa, Lehrstuhl für Allgemeine und Theoretische Soziologie Institut für Soziologie Friedrich-Schiller-Universit&BAD:aauml;t 07737 Jena, Germany (email: hartmut.rosa@uni-jena.de) and those using native English, Robert Hassan, Media and Communications Program, John Medley Building (131), The University of Melbourne, Victoria 3010
