Notes for Authors
The European Journal of Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary, academic, feminist journal, aiming to involve scholars from all European regions. lt provides a platform for different theoretical approaches and different feminist perspectives. Theoretical and thematic articles are all welcomed, as are open letters, book reviews and conference reports. Authors are strongly encouraged to write their articles in English, however, articles in other languages, including Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish, will be refereed. If accepted for publication, the author will be responsible for translation into English.
Articles must be submitted in in complete and final form, electronically to ejws@lse.ac.uk, or by post on floppy disk to Hazel Johnstone, EJWS, Gender Institute, Houghton Street, London WC2A 2AE. All articles must be accompanied by an abstract of 100-150 words and up to 10 key words. The preferred length of an article is 6-7000 words including notes and references. The name(s) of the author(s) should appear on a separate title page only. They must be typed throughout in double spacing on one side only of white A4 paper and lines should not exceed 150 mm in length. British spelling should be used except in the case of words where the 'z' has generally replaced the 's', e.g. organize. Indicate italic type by underlining and use single quotation marks. Tables and figures should be clearly labeled and explained in the text and camera-ready artwork for all figures must be supplied. Essential footnotes should be indicated by superscript figures in the text and collected (rather than embedded) on a single page at the end of the article. References cited in the text should read thus: Brown (1992: 45-6), Brown and Smith (1990, 1991). Use 'et al.' when citing a work by more than two authors, e.g. Brown et al. (1994). The letters a, b, c, etc. should be used to distinguish different citations by the same author in the same year, e g. Brown (1992a, 1992b). All references cited in the text should be listed alphabetically and in full after the notes, using the following style:
Evans, M. (1994) The Woman Question. London: Sage.
Dominijanni, Ida (1994) 'Language, Communication and Betrayal', The European Journal of Women's Studies 1(1): 59-69.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions from copyright holders for reproducing any previously published material. Authors submitting a typescript should attach a letter confirming that all authors consent to its submission and that the article is not currently being considered for publication by any other print or electronic journal. Authors do so on the understanding that, if it is accepted for publication, exclusive copyright of the article shall be assigned to the publisher and the author will be required to sign a copyright indemnity declaration. The publisher would not charge authors who wished to use their articles again in publications they may subsequently write or edit. Authors must correct proofs promptly and not make revisions on proofs. Authors will receive electronic offprints of their article and a complimentary journal copy. A maximum of 5 journal copies will be supplied for multi-authored articles. These will be supplied to the main author.
