INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
Submitting Papers to the Journal:
1. Double-spaced electronic versions of the manuscript, both as MS Word and PDF files, should be submitted as email attachments to: Dr. Gordon E. Hartzell, Editor, Journal of Fire Sciences, at JFSinSAT@aol.com. Any subsequent revisions of the manuscript should be submitted in the same manner.
2. Centred title should be brief, followed by centred name, affiliation, address, country, and postal code of author(s). Indicate to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent, including telephone number, fax number and e-mail address.
3. Include a 100-word abstract.
4. Include a list of key words and author biographies.
5. As an optional courtesy, it is suggested that a list of five potential reviewers be submitted to the Editor at the time of manuscript submission .
6. MANUSCRIPT should be structured into sections with unnumbered headings. Typically, the manuscript structure should use main subheadings [all capital letters] and secondary subheadings [capitalize first letter of main words]. For example:
INTRODUCTION
EXPERIMENTAL
Materials
Apparatus
RESULTS
DISCUSSION
CONCLUSIONS
REFERENCES
There are no specific limitations on the length of a manuscript. However, typical accepted manuscripts run from 10 to 25 pages when reduced to the printed format of the Journal. This allows for the publication of 5 to 6 papers in each issue. Authors should be advised that manuscripts of excessive length often take longer in the review and publication processes.
7. GRAPHICS should be uniformly sized, if possible, and planned for a 50% reduction in size when published. They may be embedded in the MS WORD version of the manuscript, but separate files [e.g., TIFF, GIFF and, for photographs, JPEG] are desirable for superior reproduction. Figures and photographs must be called out sequentially in the text. Figure numbers and captions should also be listed on a separate page.
8. JOURNAL AND BOOK REFERENCES must be identified in the text using the Vancouver system [numbered sequentially in brackets throughout text, with a numbered list in the REFERENCES section of the manuscript].
Literature references should be listed by number at the end of manuscript as reference number, Author(s), date, ''title of article,'' title of publication, volume, page, publisher, place of publication, etc. Examples:
1. Name 1, A.A. and Name 2, B.B. (year of publication). A Method of Damage Detection for Rotating Systems, Journal Name, 107(3): 275-281.
2. Name, C.C. (year of publication). Title of Chapter, Book Name, Edition (if not first), page, publisher, place of publication.
9. FIGURES, TABLES & EQUATIONS must be consecutively numbered with Arabic numbers, called out in the text and capitalized. For example: Figure 1, Table 1, Equation (1). Equation numbers should be enclosed in parentheses at the right-hand margin. TABLES must be identified with a descriptive title. Column headings should be explanatory and carry units. Table numbers and titles should be listed on a separate page.
11. UNITS & ABBREVIATIONS are to be in SI units. If necessary, English units may follow in parentheses.
12. SYMBOLS and their meanings should be included as a list if a large number of symbols appear in the text.
13. PROOFREADING AND OFFPRINTS: Authors will receive page proofs electronically, which they should correct and return as soon as possible. An order form for purchase of offprints will accompany the proofs. No free offprints can be provided; however, the corresponding author will receive one free issue of the Journal in which the paper appears for each contributor.
15. PERMISSIONS: The author is responsible for obtaining releases from other publishers for SAGE to publish material copyrighted by someone else.
