Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

Peer Review Policy: All manuscripts submitted to Planning Theory are reviewed initially by the Editors and only those papers will be sent for outside peer review that meet the scientific and editorial standards and which fit within the aims and scope of the journal. Planning Theory adheres to a rigorous double-blind reviewing policy in which the identity of the reviewers and author/s are concealed from all parties. The reviewers may opt to reveal their name to the author/s in their review at their own discretion, but our standard policy practice is for all identities to remain concealed. Each manuscript is reviewed by three referees. All manuscripts are reviewed as rapidly as possible, and an editorial decision is generally reached within 6-8 weeks of submission.

The editors welcome submission of manuscripts for consideration. All submissions should be emailed as an attachment to both editors, Jean Hillier (j.s.hillier@newcastle.ac.uk) and Charlie Hoch (chashoch@uic.edu).

By submission of a manuscript an author certifies that the work is original and is not being considered simultaneously by another publisher.

The editors recognize that planning theory is not a precisely bounded area of intellectual inquiry. The journal enshrines a broad view of planning theory; it is a forum in which differences within and between schools of thought and intellectual traditions can be debated. It prizes rigour, and the attempt to communicate across as well as within competing traditions and perspectives. The submission of papers from less experienced or established scholars is especially welcomed.

Manuscripts should be double-spaced, with ample margins, and should bear the title of the contribution and the name(s) of the author(s) on a separate page. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and author copies should also be included. All pages should be numbered. Contributions should not normally be more than 7000 words in length and should be written in the English language. They should include an abstract of about 100 words.

Figures and tables should be submitted in a separate file(s) from the main text. Their placement in the text should be clearly marked.

References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name and the year of publication as follows: Hillier (1999) or (Hillier, 1999). If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a,b,c etc should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form:

Campbell, S. & Fainstein, S. (Eds) (1996) Readings in Planning Theory. Oxford: Blackwell.

Forester, J. (1992) Envisioning the politics of public sector dispute resolution, in S. Sibley & A. Sarat (Eds) Studies in Law, Politics and Society 12, pp 83-112. Greenwich, CT: JAI Press.

Titles of journals should not be abbreviated.
