SAGE TRACK

Simulation. has a fully web-based system for the submission and review of manuscripts. All submissions should be made online at the Simulation SAGETRACK website TEXT HERE

Note: Online submission and review of manuscripts is now mandatory for all types of papers.

New User Account

Please log onto the website. If you are a new user, you will first need to create an account. Follow the instructions and please ensure to enter a current and correct email address. Creating your account is a three-step process that takes a matter of minutes to set up. When you have finished, your User ID and password is sent via email immediately. Please edit your user ID and password to something more memorable by selecting 'edit account' at the top of the screen. If you have already created an account but have forgotten your details type your email address in the 'Password Help' to receive an emailed reminder. Full instructions for uploading the manuscript are provided on the website.

New Submission

Submissions should be made by logging in and selecting the Author Center and the 'Click here to Submit a New Manuscript' option. Submitting a Revised Submission

Authors submitting revised manuscripts should follow the instructions above to submit through the SAGETRACK system. To create a revision, go to the 'Manuscripts with Decisions' option in your Author Dashboard and select 'create a revision in the 'Action' column. Authors of all revised submissions should, when prompted, provide information explaining the changes in your manuscript as this will be provided to reviewers.

SIMULATION: Transactions of The Society for Modeling and Simulation operates a conventional single-blind reviewing policy in which the reviewer's name is always concealed from the submitting author.

The journal is the monthly refereed transactions of the leading society devoted to advancing the discipline and profession of modeling and simulation. An archival journal in both print and electronic form, it consists of distinct sections, one devoted to theory, the other to applications. Published articles must have a clear relevance to general modeling and simulation issues. In addition to its archival mission, the journal aims to help professionals and researchers, particularly those involved in multidisciplinary projects, apply advances in modeling and simulation theory, methodology, and technology to their application areas.

The Methodology section welcomes original papers of lasting value dealing with modeling and simulation that are methodological in nature. In particular, purely mathematical, computational, or empirical results, however valuable, are considered more appropriate to the many journals specializing in these areas. Authors should consult past issues of TRANSACTIONS beginning with March 1996 for examples of articles within its scope. General approaches, formalisms, algorithms, or techniques, however, should be illustrated with significant applications that demonstrate their applicability to real-world problems.

The Applications section welcomes applied papers describing mature work involving computational accounts of modeling and simulation. Proposals for new ways of looking at modeling and simulation must include demonstrations of effectiveness. Authors should consult past issues of SIMULATION before 2002 for examples of articles within its scope.

The methods and applications of modeling and simulation in both well established and emerging areas include the fields of, but are not restricted to:

· Computer Science: Computer networking and communications, high performance computers, real-time systems, mobile and intelligent agents, simulation software, and language design.

· Engineering: System engineering and design, aerospace, traffic systems, microelectronics, robotics, mechatronics, and air traffic.

· Physical and Life Sciences: Chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, biomedicine, sociology, and cognition.

Comprehensive review and tutorial papers that explicate methodological topics in modeling and simulation are especially welcome and will be reviewed both for technical quality as well as understandability to the general reader.

All manuscripts submitted for publication will be critically reviewed for their relevance to journal objectives, technical quality, significance and readability.

Special Issues

Proposals for special issues should be accompanied by the curriculum(a) vitae of the proposed guest editor(s) and will be reviewed for their relevance to the journal objectives, significance, topicality, and balance.

Sole Publication Policy and the Review Process

Papers submitted for publication must be original. Manuscripts are accepted for review on the strict understanding that the same work is not pending publication, or under review, by another periodical journal; that it will not appear subsequently in another periodical journal without the permission of The Society; and that its submission for publication is approved by all of its authors and by the institution where the work was performed. The editors of SIMULATION notify their referees in advance that by accepting a manuscript for review, they also accept an obligation to maintain confidentiality of the manuscript's contents; this obligation ends only when the manuscript becomes lawfully available to them through another channel without an obligation of confidentiality.

Submission

Language and Length: All manuscripts must be submitted in English. There is no restriction on the length of submitted manuscripts. However, authors should note that publication of lengthy papers is often significantly delayed, as the length of the paper acts as a disincentive to the referee to undertake the review process.

Arrangement of Content: Papers should be formatted for US letter or A4 size paper. Contents of the paper should be arranged in the following order: (1) single page description, (2) cover page, (3) abstract, (4) key- words, (5) text, (6) footnotes or endnotes, (7) references, (8) tables, (9) figures with captions.

Single Page Description: In order to facilitate the finding of appropriate referees for the manuscript, full-length papers should be accompanied by a separate single-page description. This description should answer the following questions specifically enough so that a potential referee or very knowledgeable reader could understand the contribution of the paper, and whether it was interesting to the referee. Please include this page at the beginning of the paper you are submitting.

· What is the original contribution of this work?

· Why should this contribution be considered important?

· What is the most closely related work by others and how does this work differ?

· How can other researchers make use of the results of this work?

If any part of this work has been submitted elsewhere, please state where it has been submitted and how it differs from this paper.

Cover Page: The cover page should include the title (as brief as possible),

followed by the name and affiliation of each author (complete addresses of affiliations); up to six keywords.

Abstract: The abstract (250 words or less) should state the nature of the investigation and summarize its important conclusions. Minimize such terms as "this paper describes" or "the paper presents." Do not cite references in the abstract.

Text: The text should be logically divided under numbered headings and subheadings. Authors should write concisely in sentences of 20 words or less. Special care should be taken to use correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax. Spelling, usage, and hyphenation will be governed by Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

Footnotes/Endnotes: The use of The Chicago Manual of Style is suggested as a guide. Authors may use either footnotes or endnotes in the paper.

References: The references should be grouped in a section at the end of the text and should include: surname and initials (use et al. in cases where the number of authors is greater than three); full title of paper; journal title; volume and number; inclusive page numbers; year of publication.

If in doubt, authors should always write the journal title in full. References to a book should include: author's surname, followed by initials; title of book; editors (if any); volume number/edition (if any); inclusive page numbers; name of publisher; place of publication; and year of publication.

Proofs: Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the manuscript

(whether original or revised) before final submission. An electronic copy (on diskette) should accompany the final printed manuscript. One set of proofs is sent to the corresponding author before publication; any changes and approvals should be returned promptly. The publishers reserve the right to charge for any changes made at the printer's proof stage (other than printer's errors), since the insertion or deletion of a single word may necessitate the resetting of whole paragraphs.

Reprints: A bound copy and access to the final pdf file of the article will be provided.Extra copies can be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order

form, which is sent with the proofs.

Online Submission Process

Once the paper meets the submission requirements listed above, the paper may be uploaded to
