INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures operates a conventional single-blind reviewing policy in which the reviewer’s name is always concealed from the submitting author. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least three referees and all manuscripts are reviewed as rapidly as possible.
The Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures has a fully web-based system for the submission and review of manuscripts. All submissions should be made online at The Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures SAGETRACK website
Manuscript submission is entirely electronic. All submissions should be made online at JIMSS SAGETRACK website http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jimss. The system will accept papers in LaTex as well as Word format.
Please log onto the website. If you are a new user, you will first need to create an account. This is a 3-step system that takes a matter of minutes to set up. Log-in information is sent via email immediately upon completion. Full instructions for uploading the manuscript are provided on the website. If you have already created an account but have forgotten your details type your email address in the 'Password Help' to receive an emailed reminder.
Submissions should be made via the Author Center and the 'Click here to Submit a New Manuscript' option. For questions and a user guide, please use the 'Get Help Now' button at the top right of every screen. Further help is available through ScholarOne's® Manuscript CentralTM customer support at +1 434-817-2040 x 167. If you would like to discuss your paper prior to submission, please contact the Editor-in-Cheif, Daniel J. Inman, at the following email address: journals@vt.edu
Please note that information must be provided for all authors-authors. Please input the titles/salutations, complete mailing address, phone numbers, and email addresses for co-authors as well as the corresponding author. The paper cannot be put into process without this information. All authors and co-authors will have access and be able to check on the status of their paper.

JOURNAL AND BOOK REFERENCES should be identified in the text by author-date.
References, author-date, within text:

For works of multiple authorship use names for two or three authors:

Clark and Lewis (2002)
(Byrnes, James and Hoover, 1988)
Byrnes, James and Hoover (1988)
In a reference to a work by two family members with the same last name, the name is repeated:

The plurals of the name may be used in the text when the reference is to the persons rather than the work:
The Smiths (2000) maintain that . . .
For more than three authors use the name of the first followed by ''et al.'':

Brown et al. (1990)
Two or more references given together are separated by semicolons:

Several works by the same author are cited by date only and separated by commas; when page numbers are given, the references are separated by semi-colons and the name is repeated. References with the same author and year of publication should be distinguished in the text by appending a lowercase ''a'' to the year of publication of the first cited, a letter ''b'' to the second cited, and so on.

For example, Author(s) Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures OnlineFirst, day month year (doi:10.1177/1045389x06060219). After print publication, you should give the DOI as well as the print citation, to enable readers to find the paper in print as well as online.
