Guidelines for Contributors
Complementary Health Practice Review is a peer-reviewed journal published three times a year. It examines significant topics and trends that are shaping alternative and complementary health practice and their integration with conventional health care.
SUBMISSION. All correspondence and materials submitted for publication should be sent to Susan Gaylord, PhD, Editor, Complementary Health Practice Review, Program on Integrative Medicine, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, C. Articles must be original material. Four copies of the manuscript and a computer disk labeled with the author’s last name, affiliation, title of the article, and software program should be supplied. Manuscripts not accepted for publication will be returned only if a self-addressed, stamped, correct-sized envelope is included at the time of submission. Authors are urged to retain their original manuscripts, illustrations, and artwork. All manuscripts are accepted conditionally, pending author revision of material after peer review.
PERMISSIONS. If reprinting of previously published illustrations, tables, or other materials is required, the author is responsible for securing such permission from the holder of the copyright. The author is also responsible for obtaining written permission of persons who can be identified in any photographs submitted.
MANUSCRIPT FORMAT. Papers should be carefully structured, clearly and succinctly written, and illustrated where appropriate. Manuscripts must be double-spaced, typewritten, on one side only on 8½² by 11² white paper. Size of the font should be 12 point. Pages should be numbered consecutively. Title and page number should appear on each page. Margins should be 1² all around. Every manuscript should have a separate title page including the title of the manuscript, the name, mailing addresses, e-mail, telephone and fax numbers of the author. References should be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition).
ABSTRACT. Each manuscript should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 150 words. The abstract must be double-spaced and should summarize the main points of the article.
TABLES, FIGURES, AND ILLUSTRATIONS. Tables should be typed, be double-spaced, and each should appear on a separate sheet. Illustrations must be of a professional quality and ready for reproduction. Drawings should be black and white and be submitted in camera-ready form. Both illustrations and drawings should be submitted on disk in .TIF or .EPS format in addition to the hard copy. All should have titles, and it should be clearly noted where they are to appear in the text.
