Please do not send manuscripts/articles by post.

When submitting your article please confirm, in your email, that all authors have agreed to the submission and that the article is not currently being considered for publication by any other journal. (You will be asked to sign a formal printed agreement once your article is accepted.)

The Editors will be pleased to look at and advise on early drafts and ideas for publication

Layout: Title Page: Title (preferably short), not capitalized or italicized or emboldened; name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s) e.g. place of work / role; your contact details ( postal address, telephone, and email. Your email will normally be shown in the journal, so that readers can contact you).

Second page: Title; an abstract of 100-150 words; up to 6 keywords (not found in the title).

Subsequent pages: Main body of text; Acknowledgements (if needed); References. Figures / tables / diagrams and the like should be numbered sequentially throughout the text but placed at the end of the article, and their intended place in the article should be clearly indicated.

Length of papers accepted: Major articles (refereed, marked in the journal by 'R' after the title) should normally be between 3000 and 6000 words long excluding references. Shorter items such as reports on interesting developments in schools are very welcome (e.g. 1000-2000 words, preferably with photographs).

Style: Articles must be typed, double spaced, written in English and avoid discriminatory language. They should be aimed at an international audience, using a clear style, avoiding jargon. You must therefore explain points that might only be understood within your own education system. Acronyms, abbreviations and technical terms should be defined when they are first used. UK spellings are preferred. If notes are essential only use endnotes. Do not indent at the start of a new paragraph; instead, leave one line between each paragraph and at least two lines between each (sub)section and the next.

Headings and subheadings: Only use up to three levels, including main headings and subheadings. Subheadings are helpful to the reader.

Quotations: For shorter quotations (up to 10 or so words) please use single quotation marks. Longer quotations should appear as separate paragraphs and be indented. All quotations should include page number(s) from the original source.

Final version of accepted articles and items: Should be supplied by email and as one hardcopy. It is the author's responsibility to make sure the electronic and hard versions match exactly. Figures, tables, illustrations and photographs should be supplied as camera-ready copy, or as TIFF or EPS (all fonts embedded) files, with minimum resolutions of 300 dpi for halftones and 600 dpi for line drawings.

Copyright and permissions for reproducing the work of others: On acceptance of their article, authors will be asked to assign copyright to SAGE. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions from copyright holders for reproducing any illustrations, tables, figures or lengthy quotations previously published elsewhere.

Book reviews: Books for review should be sent to the Reviews Editor, via either of the Editors.

Proofs and off-prints: Authors must comment on proofs of articles accepted for publication within two weeks of receipt from SAGE. They will receive a complimentary copy of the Journal and controlled access to a pdf of their article.

References: The styles indicated below must be followed exactly by authors

· Every citation should have a reference and every reference should be cited.

· Use ampersands in multiple references (e.g. Smith, Brown & Jones), but in the text put first author et al. (e.g. Smith et al.).

· Do not use bold, underlining or quotation marks in references.

· Provide translations for non-English titles in the references.
