Notes for Contributors
The RELC Journal is a fully peer-reviewed international journal that publishes original research and review articles on language education.
All papers submitted to the RELC Journal are subject to double blind peer review by members of a carefully appointed editorial board.
Manuscripts should be submitted to the RELC Journal Editor, SEAMEO Regional Language Centre, 30 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258352 or email to journal@relc.org.sg. They should be submitted both in electronic form and in hard copy, in accordance with the journal's guideline below.
The Manuscript: All copies must be typewritten, double-spaced throughout, on one side of the sheet only.
Italic type: Use for cited linguistic forms, titles of books and journals that occur within the text or for emphasis.
Punctuation: Enclose quoted words, phrases and sentences in single quotation marks. Enclose quotations within quotations, and glosses, in double quotation marks.
Notes: Do not use footnotes. Use a raised numeral (without parentheses) for a note reference number. Type all notes, double-spaced, at the end of the main text.
References: At the end of each article or review cite fully and accurately the literature to which you have referred. Type the references, double-spaced, beginning on a separate page, under the heading REFERENCES. For ease of inter-library loans please give the page extent for all journal extracts and for chapters/articles in a larger volume. Arrange the entries alphabetically by surnames of authors as in the following examples:
Anthony, Edward M. 1975 Towards a Theory of Lexical Meaning (Singapore: Singapore University Press for the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre).
Halliday, M.A.K. 1975 Learning How to Mean: Explorations in the Development of Language (London: Edward Arnold).
Lim, Kat Boey 1975 'The SRA Reading Laboratory and Reading Comprehension', RELC Journal 6.1: 14-16.
Lo Castro, V. 1996 'English Language Education in Japan', in H. Coleman (ed.), Society and the Language Classroom (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press): 40-58.
Within the text, make brief citations such as (Anthony 1975) or (Sibayan 1974: 221-22) giving the page numbers for the passage to which reference is made.
Abstracts: Each manuscript should be accompanied by an informative abstract, summarizing the conceptual content of the article. The abstract should be as brief as possible (no longer than 200 words) and typed on a separate sheet of paper.
Keywords: Each manuscript must also have about four to six keywords arranged in alphabetical order.
Offprints: Authors will be given a set number of accesses to their article on SAGE Journals Online, similar to the set number of paper offprints they currently receive, with the ability to print off a set number of copies of their article, as well as the opportunity to purchase additional paper copies if they wish. We will continue to send complimentary copies of the journal in which their articles appear, in addition to the online access to pdfs.
