Journal of the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (JIAPAC)

Editor: Jose Zuniga International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care
Manuscript Submission Guidelines:
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jiapac. Authors will be required to set up an online account on the SageTrack system powered by ScholarOne.

Files should be submitted in Microsoft Word and should include the following elements: complete author names, author contact information, including credentials, affiliations, and acknowledgments, abstract (150 words or less), keywords, references, tables, illustrations, and legends.

All manuscripts should be double-spaced, and, if hard copies are sent by mail, three high-quality copies of each manuscript are required. All hard-copy manuscripts should be accompanied by electronic files on CD. For further guidelines on how to prepare a manuscript, see Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals http://www.icmje.org/.

The following guidelines are based on the instructions put forth by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. All submissions must follow those instructions, which are published according to the Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals", N Engl J Med 1997, 336:309-315.

The Journal of the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (JIAPAC) seeks original research papers, as well as "Letters to the Editor," "Short Communications" and "State-of-the-Art Reviews."

"Letters to the Editor" should be limited to 750 words. JIAPAC is under no obligation to print any letter or to provide an explanation for why any letter is not printed; the editors will consider the content of each letter in determining whether or not it will be peer-reviewed.

"Short Communications" may be submitted to describe original research findings that do not need to be documented in full-length papers. These submissions should not exceed 2,000 words. Their content will determine whether or not they are peer-reviewed.

"State-of-the-Art Reviews" are also welcome for submission, or may be solicited by the editors. Prior to submission of a review, a written request describing the review, the length and the number of references, figures, and tables should be sent to the Managing Editor.

"Case Reports" are also accepted as long as they are new, interesting, or rare cases. Describe the essence of the report and the case or technique. Highlight the educational value of the case or technique. Cases with clinical significance or implications will be given priority.

Editorial Policies A manuscript should only be submitted to JIAPAC if it contains material that has not been submitted elsewhere. At the time that a manuscript is submitted, all of the manuscript’s authors are asked to inform JIAPAC if they have affiliations or financial relationships that might be construed as presenting conflicts of interest.

Authors who seek clarification on decisions relating to the acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts should communicate in writing to the Editor of JIAPAC.

The "Guidelines on Good Publication Practice" put forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) provide information on additional policies that are widely maintained in the field of biomedical publishing. Contributors are asked to look to these guidelines as a supplement to JIAPAC’s editorial policies.

Review Process

The corresponding author will receive written notice that the manuscript has been received. All manuscripts are subject to blind review by three experts in fields related to the topic or methods of the manuscript. The corresponding author will receive written notice regarding the outcome of the review process. Revised and resubmitted manuscripts will be reviewed by the same reviewers that evaluated the original submission. All manuscripts will be edited to conform to the standards and style of JIAPAC.

Title Page

Each manuscript must have a title page containing the following: each author’s name, clearly listed with credentials and affiliations; full contact information for the lead author; and e-mail addresses and telephone numbers for co-authors.

Abstract

Every manuscript submitted to JIAPAC (with the exception of "Letters to the Editor," "Short Communications," and "State-of-the-Art Reviews") must include an abstract; unless the content of the manuscript clearly requires a different abstract format, all abstracts should follow the standard format presented in "Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals." If a manuscript contains information that cannot be abstracted in that format, the information should be abstracted in the format that the authors deem most appropriate. Abstracts should not exceed 150 words. Each abstract should be accompanied with four or five keywords chosen by the authors to assist in indexing the paper. Authors are advised to use terms from the Index Medicus medical subject headings list when possible. This list can be found at the National Library of Medicine’s Medical Subject Headings Web site, at
