IMPORTANT: Please check whether you already have an account in the system before trying to create a new one. If you have reviewed or authored for the journal in the past year it is possible that you will have had an account created.

All papers must be submitted via the online system. If you would like to discuss your paper prior to submission, please refer to the editors' contact details below.

1. All material should be single spaced and with generous margins. Authors should retain a copy of their work and ensure that the final version is accurate.

2. Articles must not exceed 8000 words, including references and tables. Longer articles will not be considered.

3. Contributions must be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 200-250 words. At least six (6) keywords must also be included below the abstract.

4. A separate cover sheet must include authors' full name, current postal address, email address and affiliation.

5. Footnotes are discouraged. However, if it is absolutely essential, they should be numbered in the text and listed at the end.

6. Tables and figures should be included on separate sheets at the end of the article. In the text of the article the preferred position of the tables and figures should be indicated by typing in a separate line the words, "[insert Table (no.) here]". All tables and figures should have short, descriptive titles. All notes and sources to tables and figures should be placed underneath. Vertical lines between columns should be drawn, but horizontal lines limited to the top and the bottom of the table, with an additional one below the column headings. Totals and percentages should be labeled and units identified. The preferred format for any figures or artwork is .eps or .tif files saved at 300dpi.

7. Single quotation marks should be used (i.e. 'example').

8. Submission of an article is taken to imply that it has not previously been published and that it is not being considered elsewhere. If an author is publishing a related article elsewhere, this fact must be stated.

9. All titles and subheadings should be concise. Major headings should be bold and subheadings in italics.

10. References should be incorporated in the text using the Harvard system, ie, the author, date, page system (e.g., Heclo and Wildavsky, 1976, p. 6).

11. References should be listed at the end alphabetically, and in year order when there is more than one publication for the same author. Please list publications for the same author in the same year as 2007a, 2007b etc. Please use the following forms:

Books: Heclo, H., and Wildavsky, A. (1974) The Private Government of Public Money. London and Basingstoke: Macmillan.

Journals: Fischoff, B. (1977) 'Cost Benefit Analysis and the Art of Motor Cycle Maintenance', Policy Sciences, 8(2): 177-202.

Chapters within books: Thomas, P. (1998) 'The Changing Nature of Accountability', in B. Peters and D. Savoie (eds) Taking Stock: Assessing Public Sector Reforms. London: McGill-Queens University Press. [no page numbers]

URLs: Public Sector Privatization Unit (1998) Alternative Models of Public-Private Partnership, URL (consulted March 2002) http:/www.unison.org.uk/pfi/pppsumm/htm

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THESE FORMULATIONS BE FOLLOWED. Articles that do not conform to the style and prescribed format will be sent back to the authors for revision.

It is the policy of the Journal that submitted articles will in the first instance be reviewed by the editors and then if appropriate forwarded anonymously for peer review.

Articles will be proofread at the typesetting stage by the editors and authors.

Contributors are solely responsible for obtaining permission for any extensive quotations, reproduced tables and figures, and for ensuring the accuracy and fairness of their contributions. The journal does not accept responsibility for any of the opinions of the articles published.

SAGE requires the author as the rights holder to sign a Journal Contributor's Publishing Agreement for all articles we publish. SAGE's Journal Contributor's Publishing Agreement is a license agreement under which the author retains copyright in the work but grants SAGE the sole and exclusive right and license to publish for the full legal term of copyright.

Contributors will receive a complimentary copy of the journal after publication and controlled access to an encrypted PDF of their finished article.

Contributors based at or connected with a UK university should note that their published article in Public Policy and Administration is eligible for the UK Public Administration Consortium (UKPAC) prize. The prize is awarded to the author(s) whose article offers the greatest contribution to taking forward the concepts or practice of public administration.
