Editor: David L. Reich Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York
Manuscript Submission Guidelines:
Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia (SCVA) will consider for publication suitable articles on all topics related to anesthesia for cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery. The scope of SCVA is broad and seeks to consolidate all material pertinent to cardiothoracic anesthesiology, including topics from critical care medicine, pharmacology, monitoring, perfusion technology, internal medicine, and surgery.

Editorial Policies

Manuscripts are accepted for consideration on the condition that they are contributed solely to SCVA. No substantial part of a paper may have been published elsewhere, except for a scientific abstract. Manuscripts will be reviewed by the editor, associate editors, members of the editorial board, and appropriate independent referees. If the article is accepted for publication, editorial revisions may be made to aid clarity and understanding without altering the meaning.

Articles, editorials, letters to the editor, and other text material in SCVA represent the opinion of the authors and do not necessarily represent the opinion of the editor, editorial board, or publisher. The editors and publisher deny any responsibility or liability for statements and opinions expressed by the authors. Neither the editor nor the publisher guarantees, warrants, or endorses any product or service advertised in this publication, nor do they guarantee any claim made by the manufacturer of such product or service.

Submission of a manuscript to the Journal is taken as evidence that no portion of the text or figures has been copyrighted, published, or submitted for publication elsewhere, unless information regarding previous publication is cited and permission obtained. A copy of permission obtained must accompany the manuscript. Transfer of copyright to Sage Publications is a condition of publication. After your article has been accepted for publication by the editor, a copyright agreement form will be sent to you that must be signed by all authors and returned promptly to Dr. David Reich at: Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, One Gustave L. Levy Place, Box 1010, New York, NY  10029-6574; Fax: (212) 876-3906; e-mail: david.reich@mountsinai.org.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/scva, where authors will be required to set up an online account in the SAGETRACK system powered by ScholarOne.

The American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style is the standard source of style. For more information on the AMA Manual of Style, please visit http://www.sagepub.com, click on “Journal Editors/Authors,” and then click on “Editor’s Guide.” Please view page 25 of the PDF for a brief overview of AMA style points.

The abstract should be no longer than 150 words in length. The abstract should summarize the main points of the paper and be descriptive, narrative, and informative. At the bottom of the abstract, please also submit 3-5 keywords for your article.

Tables

All tables must be cited in text. Tables are to be numbered with Arabic numerals (Table 1, Table 2) in order of their text citation. Each table should be typed (double-spaced throughout) on a separate sheet of paper and should have a title. Word table format is preferred. Each table should have a legend in sufficient detail to allow understanding without reference to the text.

Figure and Artwork Submission

Artwork includes charts and graphs, maps, photographs, line art, and tables with 17 or more columns.

When several references are cited simultaneously in the text, you can list the superscripted numbers together, for example, “Many researchers have debated this subject.”1,2,5,9. Use “et al” for cites of 3 authors or more in text. However, in the references, list up to 6 authors. If there are more than 6 authors, list the first 3 authors and then “et al.” Type references double-spaced at the end of the manuscript numbered in order of appearance in the manuscript. Unpublished data and personal communications should be given as references. Manuscripts in press may be referenced; however, manuscripts that have been submitted for publication but have not been accepted yet should not be referenced.
