Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

Instructions for Authors

The journal Vascular and Endovascular Surgery publishes original articles and case reports relating to any phase of vascular diseases, including diagnostic methods, therapeutic procedures, operative techniques, clinical and laboratory research.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ves where authors will be required to set up an online account on the SageTrack system powered by ScholarOne. Submissions must include a cover letter, a Word file with the text of the article, and separate files for each figure (see Figure and Artwork Submissions).

Transmittal Letter

The manuscript is to be accompanied by a cover letter which states: (1) all the authors have read and approved the final manuscript; (2) the full name, address, phone and fax number, and e-mail address of the individual to whom correspondence concerning the manuscript is to be sent.

Transfer of Copyright

Upon acceptance of an article, the lead author will be required to assign the copyright to the Publisher. After the article has been accepted for publication by the editor, a Copyright Release form will be sent that must be signed by the lead author on behalf of all authors and returned promptly to Sheila Platt by fax to: 516-759-5524 or by e-mail to: sheila@westminsterpublications.com. The Copyright form is located under the Instructions and Forms link on the submission login page.

Manuscript Preparation

Type the manuscript double-spaced throughout, with one-inch margins, on bond paper, 81/2 × 11 inches (22 cm × 28 cm). Manuscripts will generally be divided into the following sections: title page, abstract and keywords, introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments, references, figure legends, figures, and tables. For guidance in text preparation, authors should consult the American Medical Association Manual of Style. Abbreviations must be spelled out on first use.

The title page should include the following: (1) full title of the manuscript; (2) full name of each author, including highest earned degree; (3) institutional affiliation of each author together with the city and state; (4) acknowledgment of the source(s) of support for study, if any; (5) full name, address, phone and fax number, and e-mail address of the author to whom correspondence should be sent; (6) e-mail addresses for ALL authors.

Figure and Artwork Submissions

Electronic submission of figures is required via the online submission system. Artwork includes charts and graphs, maps, photographs, and line art. For electronic art acceptable file formats include the following: TIFF, EPS, JPEG, and PDF. Microsoft application files are acceptable for vector art (line art). For all scanned images line art (black and white) images should be scanned as a bitmap at 900 ppi and photos should be scanned as grayscale or CMYK at 300 ppi.

Color artwork can be published only at the author’s expense. The author must be prepared to pay US$800 for the first color image and US$200 each for additional color images.

All illustrations should be identified and numbered using Arabic numerals. Identify top of illustration with up arrow. Also label illustration with author’s name. All legends for figures should be typed on a separate sheet.

If illustrative material which has been previously published is to be included with the manuscript, it is the author’s responsibility to obtain written permission.

Permissions

Submit with the manuscript written permissions to use nonoriginal materials (quotations of over 100 words in length, or any table or figure), from both the author and publisher of the original. Credit the source in the text or as a footnote in a figure legend. Any photographs of identifiable persons should be accompanied by signed releases that show informed consent. For more detailed information regarding permissions, please visit the Sage Publications Web site at http:// www.sagepub.com/journalEditors.nav and review the Permissions Guidelines and Permissions Summary on the left-hand toolbar.

Tables

Number tables in the text in consecutive order using roman numerals. Type each table double-spaced on separate pages. Each table should have a title and each column properly identified. All abbreviations used should be expressed as a footnote to the table. Do not use internal vertical-type material.

References

References must be in AMA style and should include only articles cited in the text. They should be consecutively numbered as they appear in the text. When a reference contains more than six authors, list only the first three authors followed by “et al.” After the author’s listing, supply the full title of the manuscript in lower case (except where a capital is required), the journal title abbreviated according to Index Medicus, the volume number, the inclusive pages and the year of publication. Book references should include: authors, chapter title, book title, editors, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, and page numbers.

Status of Manuscript

The receipt of your manuscript by the Journal will be acknowledged and a decision regarding its status made as soon as possible. All manuscripts are subject to editorial review. One set of page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author via e-mail for review prior to publication.
