Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

INSTRUCTIONS TO CONTRIBUTORS

POLITICAL RESEARCH QUARTERLY

Policy. Political Research Quarterly (PRQ) seeks to publish scholarly research of exceptionally high merit that makes notable contributions in any subfield of political science. We especially encourage submissions that employ a mixture of theoretical approaches or multiple methodologies to address major political problems or puzzles at a local, national, or global level. PRQ is a journal of original research and will not review papers under consideration for publication elsewhere or whose contents have been substantially published or are forthcoming elsewhere. PRQ uses a double blind review process. Papers that do not meet the formatting and submission guidelines described below will not be sent out for review. Collections of articles on a common theme or debate, to be published as short symposia, are welcome. Symposia submissions will undergo the same review process as individual manuscripts.

Manuscript Style and Formatting. PRQ prefers manuscripts that are in the range of 25–35 pages and formatted as explained below. Longer manuscripts will be considered but will be subjected to special editorial review regarding whether their length is justified. Authors may be asked to serialize longer manuscripts or write condensed versions for hard-copy articles with supporting data, materials, discussion, or full-length articles available on the journal’s website. Generally, PRQ follows the style guidelines of the The Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition) for issues not addressed in the former manual or these instructions. An abstract of 100 words or less should be included on the title page of the manuscript. The manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively, including tables, graphs and appendices. All the text, footnotes, bibliographic citations, and appendix materials in a manuscript must be double-spaced and printed in a standard 12-point type font. Tables may be single-spaced. Tables and figures should be printed at the end of the manuscript, each one on a separate page.

Manuscript Submissions.
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/prq). Authors will be required to set up an online account on the SageTrack system powered by ScholarOne. Manuscripts will be sent out anonymously for editorial evaluation. Obtaining permission for any quoted or reprinted material that requires permission is the responsibility of the author. Submission of a manuscript implies commitment to publish in the journal. Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal should not simultaneously submit them to another journal, nor should manuscripts have been published elsewhere in substantially similar form or with substantially similar content. Questions about the submission process should be directed to the editorial office at prq@wsu.edu

Replication Policy: Where appropriate authors must address the issue of data availability and replication in their first footnote. Authors relying on datasets are ordinarily expected to indicate in this footnote in which public archive they will deposit the information necessary to replicate their numerical results, and the date when it will be submitted. The information deposited should include items such as original data, specialized computer programs, lists of computer program recodes, extracts of existing data files, and an explanatory file that describes what is included and explains how to reproduce the exact numerical results in the published work. As always, authors are advised to remove information from their datasets that must remain confidential, such as the names of survey respondents.

How to get help with the quality of English in your submission: Authors who want to refine the use of English in their manuscripts might consider utilizing the services of SPi, a non-affiliated company that offers Professional Editing Services to authors of journal articles in the areas of science, technology, medicine or the social sciences. SPi specializes in editing and correcting English-language manuscripts written by authors with a primary language other than English. Visit http://www.prof-editing.com for more information about SPi’s Professional Editing Services, pricing, and turn-around times, or to obtain a free quote or submit a manuscript for language polishing.

Please be aware that SAGE has no affiliation with SPi and makes no endorsement of the company. An author’s use of SPi’s services in no way guarantees that his or her submission will ultimately be accepted. Any arrangement an author enters into will be exclusively between the author and SPi, and any costs incurred are the sole responsibility of the author.

REVIEW FOR PRQ... The editors of PRQ rely upon the service of conscientious reviewers to ensure that scholarly standards remain high and that they represent the diversity of approaches and interests within political science. If you are interested in becoming a reviewer, please go to our submission website and register as a reviewer to become a part of our reviewer database. Your time is greatly appreciated.
