Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

Manuscript Submission

SAGE TRACK

Emotion Review has a fully Web-based system for the submission and review of manuscripts. All submissions should be made online at the Emotion Review SAGETRACK Web site.

Note: Online submission and review of manuscripts is now mandatory for all types of papers, including commentaries.

New User Account

Please log on to the Web site. If you are a new user, you must first create an account. This is a three-step process that takes a matter of minutes to complete. When you have finished creating your account, your User ID and password will be sent to you immediately via e-mail. Return to the Web site, and please edit your User ID and password to something more memorable by selecting 'Edit Account' at the top of the screen. If you have already created an account but have forgotten your details, type your e-mail address in the 'Password Help' box to receive an e-mail reminder. Full instructions for uploading the manuscript are provided on the Web site.

New Submission

Submissions should be made by logging in and selecting the Author Center and the 'Click here to Submit a New Manuscript' option. Follow the instructions on each page, clicking the 'Next' button on each screen to save your work and advance to the next screen. If at any stage you have any questions or require the user guide, please use the 'Get Help Now' button at the top right of every screen. Further help is available through ScholarOne's® Manuscript Central™ customer support at +1 434 817 2040 x 167.

To upload your files, click on the 'Browse' button and locate the file on your computer. Select the designation of each file (i.e., main document, submission form, figure) in the drop down menu next to the browse button. When you have selected all the files you wish to upload, click the 'Upload Files' button. Review your submission (in both PDF and HTML formats) and then click the 'Submit' button.

You may suspend a submission at any point before clicking the Submit button and save it to submit later. After submission, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. You can also log back into your Author Center at any time to check the status of your manuscript.

Please ensure that you submit editable/source files only (Microsoft Word or RTF) and that your document does not include page numbers; the Emotion Review SAGETRACK system will generate them for you and then automatically convert your manuscript to PDF for peer review. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revisions, will be by e-mail.

If you would like to seek advice on the submission process please contact Beatriz Valdes, at the following e-mail address: emotionreview@bc.edu.

Submitting a Revised Manuscript

Authors submitting revised manuscripts should follow the instructions above to submit through the SAGETRACK system. To create a revision, go to the 'Manuscripts with Decisions' option in your Author Dashboard and select 'Create a Revision' in the 'Action' column. Authors of all revised manuscripts should, when prompted, provide information explaining the changes in their manuscript as this information will be provided to the reviewers.

Content

Emotion Review will focus on ideas about emotion, with emotion broadly defined. The Review will publish articles presenting new theories, offering conceptual analyses, reviewing the literature, and debating and critiquing conceptual issues. It will publish reports of empirical studies and method only when they make a substantial theoretical contribution.

Emotion Review invites the submission of articles from researchers in any discipline. These disciplines include, but are not limited to, anthropology, biology, computer science, economics, history, humanities, linguistics, neuroscience, philosophy, physiology, political science, psychiatry, psychology, and sociology. The Review also invites the submission of commentaries on previously published articles. Both original articles and commentaries on previous articles are treated as manuscripts and submitted in the same manner. All submissions are reviewed with respect to their scholarly merit.

Emotion Review invites articles from the entire international community. We encourage authors to make their articles as accessible as possible to a wide audience of fellow emotion researchers from other disciplines.

Please visit the Review's homepage for a more detailed description of the types of articles accepted. http://emr.sagepub.com

Manuscript Preparation

Use a word processor to prepare your manuscript. Files in Word or rich text format are preferred. All components of the final version of your manuscript should be double spaced and should conform to the formatting and style conventions of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition). We recommend the following Web sites for helpful information on APA style:

http://apastyle.aoa.org/

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/>

http://wisc.edu/writing/Handbook/DocAPA.html>

Format

Title page: On page 1, include (a) the article title no longer than 50 words, (b) the names, affiliations, and contact information for all authors, and (c) a running head containing no more than 40 characters and spaces.

Abstract: On page 2, type an abstract of no more than 120 words in length.

Keywords: Up to 6 keywords should be included.

Article length: Main/target articles should normally be 6,000-7,000 words; Commentary articles should be no more than 1,000 words.

Headings: Indicate headings and subheadings for different sections of the article clearly. Do not number headings.

Acknowledgements: These should be as brief as possible.

Permission to quote: Any direct quotation, regardless of length, must be accompanied by a reference citation that includes a page number. Any quote over six manuscript lines should have formal written permission to quote from the copyright owner.

Footnotes and endnotes: The only footnotes allowed are the opening page Author Note and copyright permission. Endnotes are the style for the Review, but authors are encouraged to keep these to a minimum.

Reference citations within the text: Use authors' last names, with the year of publication in parentheses after the last author's name, e.g. 'Jones and Smith (2000)', alternatively, '(Brown, 1996; Jones & Smith, 2000; White, Johnson, & Thomas, 2005)'. On first citation of references with three to five authors give all names, thereafter use first author 'et al.'. References with more than six authors should be cited first author 'et al.' from first citation. If more than one article by the same author(s) in the same year is cited, the letters a, b, c, etc. should follow the year.

Reference list: A full list of references quoted in the text should be given at the end of the article in alphabetical order of authors' surnames (or chronologically for a group of references by the same authors), starting on a separate page, and typed double spaced. Titles of journals and books should be given in full. Please consult the most recent edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).

Tables and figures: Should be numbered separately and have short descriptive titles. Tables should be double spaced and have an explanatory title that is intelligible without reference to the text. Provide an appropriate heading for each column in the table. Clearly indicate any units of measurement in the table. If the table is reprinted or adapted from another source, include a credit line in the table caption. Consecutively number all tables.

Figure captions should appear at the end of the manuscript and should be consecutively numbered with Arabic numerals; make captions intelligible without reference to the text. If a figure is reprinted or adapted from another source, include a credit line in the caption. Each figure should be prepared and saved in a separate, clearly identified file, which will be uploaded to the manuscript submission Web site at the same time as the main body of the manuscript.

The position of the table or figure in the text should be indicated in the text, e.g., [Table 3 about here.] Half-tone figures should be presented as EPS files (all fonts embedded) or TIFF files at 800 dpi - (b/w, unless to be reproduced - by arrangement - in color). For scanning, photographs should preferably be submitted as clear, glossy, unmounted b/w prints with a good range of contrast, or electronically as TIFF files at 300 dpi. Some 4-color images are acceptable (i.e., for neuroscience-based articles). Please consult with the Editorial Office prior to submission of such articles for advice.

Cover Letter and Permissions

Only original manuscripts will be considered for publication. Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission to reprint or adapt a copyrighted work. Authors should write to the original author(s) and original publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Include copies of all permissions and credit lines with the manuscript (see p. 174 of the APA Publication Manual for sample credit lines).

Manuscript Review and Acceptance

Submitted manuscripts are screened by the editors to determine their general suitability and match to the Review's mission. Only manuscripts that fall within the Review's purview are then peer reviewed.

Authors' files are copyedited and typeset into page proofs. Authors read the proofs to correct errors and answer editors' queries.

Electronic Offprints

A restricted quantity PDF will be provided for the corresponding author of each original or review article along with a copy of the printed journal for each author.
