PREPARING FOR SUBMISSION

Submitted manuscripts should be arranged according to the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals". The full document is available at www.icmje.org. When submitting a paper, the author should always make a full statement to the Editor about all submissions and previous reports that might be regarded as redundant or duplicate publication of the same or very similar work.
Conflict of interest and funding: Authors are responsible for recognising and disclosing financial and other conflicts of interest that might bias their work. They should acknowledge in the manuscript all financial support for the work and other financial or personal connections to the work
Statistics: A full description of the statistical methods used should be provided in the methods section. In statistical evaluation it is desirable to quote 95% confidence intervals.
Ethical considerations: All research on human subjects must have been approved by the appropriate ethics committee and must conform to the principles embodied in the Declaration of Helsinki (http:/www.wma.net) as well as to the International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects and the International Guidelines for Ethical Review for Epidemiological Studies (http:/www.cioms.ch). An appropriate statement about ethical considerations, if applicable, should be included in the methods section of the paper.
SUBMISSION
All submissions should be made online at the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health's SAGE Track website: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/spub
Manuscripts should be submitted in MS Word format. Illustrations should preferably be supplied as either eps, tiff or jpeg files (minimum resolution 300 dpi), MS Word and Excel files are also acceptable.
New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre. The manuscript should be accompanied by a covering letter from the author responsible for relevant correspondence, containing a statement that the manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors. Decisions on publication of full length original contributions are based on the assessment of at least two external reviewers. Authors are invited to suggest two suitable reviewers for their manuscript preferably from outside their own country.
The journal publishes Original, Review, and Design articles, and also invites Short communications, Debate articles, and Letters to the Editor.
- Original and Review articles should not normally exceed 3000 words. The word limit does not include text in the abstract, headings, references, figures and tables.
- Design articles should not exceed 3000 words and include Rationale for the study, Design and Measurement procedures, Population and Sample size considerations and some Basic characteristics followed by a discussion on Potentials and Research questions.
- Short communications and Debate articles should not exceed 1200 words and have no more than three tables and/or figures.
- Letters to the Editor should not exceed 800 words.
- One journal page takes about 800 words. For manuscripts exceeding six printed pages (including abstract, tables, figures and references) the page charge is USD 100.
Layout: The manuscript should include a title page stating a brief, but informative manuscript title, the name, email and full postal address of the corresponding author and the author to whom requests for offprints should be sent, as well as the names and affiliations of the co-authors. The manuscript should be typed with double-spacing, allowing margins of at least 2.5 cm.
Abstract. Page 2 should carry an abstract of no more than 250 words structured according to Aims, Methods, Results and Conclusions. List up to ten key words below the abstract, using terms from the Medical Subject headings list from Index Medicus whenever possible. Provide a word count for the whole manuscript, excluding the abstract, references, figures and tables.
Text. Organise the main text under such suitable headings as Background, Aims, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements and References, with figure captions and tables separate. Begin each of the following sections on a new page: title page, abstract, main text, acknowledgements, references, individual tables and list of figure captions. Appendices and footnotes in the text are not allowed.
References: A maximum of 30 references, except for review articles, are to be listed separately, numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear (Arabic numerals within brackets) following the Vancouver style.
Authorship: All authors must have contributed substantially to the conception and design or analysis and interpretation of the data, drafting or revision of content, and approval of the final version.
Acknowledgements: Acknowledge only persons who have made substantive contributions to the study. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from everyone acknowledged by name. The source of grant support should also be acknowledged and any conflict of interest indicated.
Figures and tables: Full length articles can have a maximum of five tables and/or figures. Short communications should have no more than three tables and/or figures.
Figures should be professionally designed and include a caption. Artwork supplied in colour will be published online in colour free of charge. Artwork can only be printed in colour if the author bears the cost of reproduction.
Tables should be supplied as separate files from the text and should be self-explanatory. Type the key to abbreviations and symbols plus any other explanatory text in footnote form - not in the heading, which should be kept brief. Number tables consecutively with roman numerals.
Construct the tables so as to fit in one or two columns. Frequency tables must contain absolute sample sizes. Omit internal horizontal and vertical rules.
