The Journal of Defense Modeling and Simulation: Applications, Methodology, Technology (JDMS) is a quarterly refereed archival journal devoted to advancing the practice, science, and art of modeling and simulation as it relates to the military and defense.
The primary focus of the journal is to document, in a rigorous manner, technical lessons derived from practical experience. The journal will also publish work related to the advancement of defense systems modeling and simulation technology, methodology, and theory.
The journal will cover all areas of the military/defense mission, maintaining a focus on the practical side of systems simulation versus pure theoretical applications. Please see the journal aims and scope for further information.
Guidelines for Submission

JDMS has a fully web-based system for the submission and review of manuscripts. All submissions should be made online at the JDMS SAGETRACK website:

Proposals for special issues should be accompanied by the curriculum vitae of the proposed guest editor(s) and will be reviewed for their relevance to the journal objectives, significance, topicality, and balance.
Instructions for Authors
Sole Publication Policy and the Review Process
Papers submitted for publication must be original. Manuscripts are accepted for review on the strict understanding that the same work is not pending publication, or under review, by another periodical journal; that it will not appear subsequently in another periodical journal without the permission of The Society; and that its submission for publication is approved by all of its authors and by the institution where the work was performed.
The editors of JDMS notify their referees in advance that by accepting a manuscript for review, they also accept an obligation to maintain confidentiality of the manuscript's contents; this obligation ends only when the manuscript becomes lawfully available to them through another channel without an obligation of confidentiality.
Peer Review
All manuscripts submitted for publication will be critically reviewed by at least two reviewers for their relevance to journal objectives, technical quality, significance, and readability.
Authors are requested to suggest the names, affiliations and contact information of five individuals who may suitably serve as referees, but the Editors are under no obligation to use all or any of these individuals as reviewers.
Language and Length
All manuscripts must be submitted in English. Whilst there is no restriction on the length of submitted manuscripts; the length of papers should ideally be between 10 and 20 pages.
English Language Editing Services: It is the author's responsibility to ensure the use of clear and correct English within the text; papers with unreadable English will be returned to the author prior to peer review for improvement. Please click here for information on professional English language editing services recommended by SAGE.
Manuscript structure
The manuscript should contain the following elements which are explained below:
(1) cover page, (2) abstract, (3) key words, (4) text, (5) footnotes or endnotes, (6) references, (7) tables, (8) figures with captions.
Single Page Description
In order to facilitate peer review all papers should be accompanied by a separate single-page description of the content within the paper. This description should answer the following questions specifically enough so that a potential referee or very knowledgeable reader could understand the contribution of the paper, and whether it was interesting to the referee. Please include this page at the beginning of the paper you are submitting.
What is the original contribution of this work?
Why should this contribution be considered important?
What is the most closely related work by others and how does this work differ?
How can other researchers make use of the results of this work?
If any part of this work has been submitted elsewhere, please state where it has been submitted and how it differs from this paper
Cover Page
The first page should indicate the title, the authors' names in full and affiliations, and a postal and e-mail address for the corresponding author.
Abstract
The abstract (250 words or less) should state the nature of the investigation and summarize its important conclusions. Minimize such terms as "this paper describes" or "the paper presents." Do not cite references in the abstract.
Key words
For indexing purposes, a list of 4-6 key words is essential
Text
The text should be logically divided under numbered headings and subheadings. Authors should write concisely in sentences of 20 words or less. Special care should be taken to use correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax. Spelling, usage, and hyphenation will be governed by Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.
Footnotes/Endnotes: Authors may use either footnotes or endnotes in the paper. The Chicago Manual of Style should be used.
References
JDMS follows the Vancouver style of referencing. References should be listed in order of appearance in the text and at the end of the manuscript. Citations in the text should be added as numbered notes throughout the text, and numbered in the list at the end of the manuscript.
Titles of papers should be given in their original language and, if possible, they should be followed by a translation into English in parentheses.

Proofs
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the manuscript (whether original or revised) before final submission. One set of proofs is sent to the corresponding author before publication; any changes and approvals should be returned promptly. The publishers reserve the right to charge for any changes made at the printer's proof stage (other than printer's errors), since the insertion or deletion of a single word may necessitate the resetting of whole paragraphs.
