SAGE Library Advisory Boards Convene
SAGE is committed to collaborating with the librarian
community to better serve your needs. SAGE held its annual Library Advisory
Board in New Orleans in conjunction with the annual American Library
Association conference in June. The group of eleven librarians represented
institutions from all regions of the country, some of which are privately
funded and others publicly funded. The group also included a representative
from one government agency and one academic biomedical library.
SAGE is an international publisher; therefore, we also hold an international
Library Advisory Board each year, most recently at our London offices
on September 5, 2006.
The objectives for both Library Advisory Board meetings were to:
- Learn more about librarians’ purchasing behaviors
- Hear their impressions of SAGE as a publisher
- Gather feedback on SAGE's electronic journal publishing programs
Lively discussions took place, which will ensure that SAGE stays in
tune with the needs of our customers in the constantly changing library
environment.
If you are interested in becoming a future member of a SAGE Library
Advisory Board, please send an email to:
In the
Americas, Caribbean, and Asia Pacific: Valerie Johns at valerie.johns@sagepub.com
In the
United Kingdom, Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Australia: Wendy Gray at wendy.gray@sagepub.co.uk

SAGE Joins the American Association of Publishers
This summer, SAGE joined the American Association of
Publishers (AAP) (www.publishers.org), the
national trade organization of US publishing. AAP has a number of different
divisions; SAGE joined the Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division
(PSP) (www.pspcentral.org). The
Division’s
mission is to represent the common interests of its members who publish
for professional, scholarly, research, and commercial markets in such
areas as business, social and behavioral sciences, the humanities, law,
science, technology, and medicine.
Several SAGE staff already participate in various working groups of
the AAP-PSP. Alison Mudditt, SAGE’s Executive Vice President for
Higher Education, is now a member of PSP’s Executive Council. Liz
Haigh, Executive Publisher for Society Relations, participates on the
medical publishing committee as well as PSP’s government affairs
task force. Director of Licensing, Carol Richman, is a member of PSP’s
copyright committee.
SAGE Appoints Managing
Director for New Asia-Pacific Business
As part of its commitment
to global dissemination of scholarly resources, SAGE has appointed Steven
D. Golden as the first managing director for its expanding Asia-Pacific
business based in
Singapore. The
Singapore
office was established at the end of August to further extend SAGE’s
reach in the Asia-Pacific markets, alongside its
New Delhi office, which has long been established as a strong player
in the South Asian market. Steve Golden will be responsible for developing
and implementing the company’s business strategy in this important
region. Like SAGE’s other offices in the
US,
UK, and
India, the Asia-Pacific office will focus on publishing in the social
sciences; in the scientific, technical, and medical (STM) markets; and
in the business and professional education arena.

SAGE’s Crime,
Media, Culture Scoops International Award for Best New Journal
|
Research into some of the most controversial
issues facing society today, such as terrorism and the culture
of fear, pedophiles in the community and binge drinking, combined
with bold design and high production values, have won SAGE journal Crime,
Media, Culture the prestigious Association of Learned and Professional
Society Publishers (ALPSP)/Charlesworth Award for Best New Journal.
The Award was open to all publishers worldwide for journals launched
within the last five years, and was presented jointly to Crime,
Media, Culture and Regenerative Medicine.
Crime,
Media, Culture was launched in April 2005 after the editors
and SAGE identified the lack of a dedicated forum for the
publication of work at the intersections of criminological
and cultural inquiry. SAGE is proud to have launched such
an important journal that is at the cutting edge of scholarly
publishing, combining innovation with intellectual rigour. |

“SAGE Spotlight”
SAGE Sponsors SOPHE Webinars on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Health
Disparities
The Society for Public
Health Education (SOPHE) recently released important special issues of
its two journals, Health
Education & Behavior (HEB) and Health Promotion Practice (HPP), both
published on behalf of the Society by SAGE. Both special issues feature
innovative approaches to eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities.
SAGE is committed to working with our society partners as well as helping
to advance the dialogue and action on these concerns and was a proud
sponsor of the free webinar series with the journals' editors and authors,
which was held July 25 and August 29. The webinars were designed to further
explore the role of health education research and practice in addressing
racial and ethnic health disparities and reflected writings
taken from SOPHE's inaugural summit on Health Disparities and Social
Inequities: Framing a Transdisciplinary Research Agenda in Health Education,
which influenced the two special issues.
The two-part webinar series entitled Eliminating Racial and Ethnic
Health Disparities: Translation and Dissemination of a Health Education
Research Agenda is now hosted online on the SOPHE website. Click here to listen
to the recorded webinar and to get information on the speakers.
More information
on the special issues of HEB and HPP can be found here.
