CQ Press Releases Newest Installment in its TimesReference from CQ Press Imprint:The New York Times on Critical ElectionsLos Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, and Washington DC (October 27, 2009) ― CQ Press has released The New York Times on Critical Elections—a new volume that examines the political parties, people, platforms, and impacts of pivotal U.S. elections over the past 150 years. In The New York Times on Critical Elections, elections scholar Gerald Pomper reaches back to the birth of the newspaper in the mid-nineteenth century to compile news articles, editorials, and data from The Times to illuminate significant changes in electoral trends. The primary source material, combined with his analytical narrative, forms a fascinating documentary history that explores the key issues, historical impact, and turning points of crucial campaigns and elections. Throughout U.S. history, major swings in certain presidential and congressional elections have had tremendous impact on the longevity of political coalitions and on the overall behavior of the voting public. The critical elections discussed in this newest volume of the TimesReference from CQ Press imprint have shaped the government and political behavior in unique ways, leaving distinct footprints on the political landscape. In twenty-one lively and engagingly written chapters, Pomper traces candidates, campaigns, third-party challenges, and—in some cases—hotly contested election results. He also captures the growing impact of communication technologies on campaigns and elections. Gerald M. Pomper is Board of Governors Professor of Political Science (emeritus) at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University. He has been honored for career achievement by the American Political Science Association. In 2008, Pomper served as an expert witness on campaign finance, reapportionment, and political party regulation and provided commentary for CBS radio at the national party conventions. |
