Ninety SAGE Journals now offering open access through SAGE OpenLos Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore and Washington DC (January 12, 2010) SAGE has extended the list of titles included in its SAGE Open initiative; a hybrid open access publishing model allowing authors the option to pay to make their primary research articles freely available on publication. The SAGE Open initiative was put in place to enable authors to comply with funding body requirements, and ensures that relevant journals are compliant with NIH/Wellcome Trust and other grant funder requirements. Originally including only titles in SAGE’s biomedical publishing program, the list of journals now includes titles from across the science, technology and medical disciplines, including some material science and engineering, psychology and nursing titles. “SAGE Open recognizes our responsibility as a growing STM publisher to facilitate our authors’ needs to comply with funding body requirements,” said Jayne Marks, Vice President and Editorial Director, Journals. “It also acknowledges the growth in open access across a number of disciplines that we publish in.” Authors can select the SAGE Open option on acceptance of their paper for publication. Payment of the SAGE Open fee ($3,000) will enable articles to be immediately available on SAGE Journals Online to non-subscribers, as well as to subscribers to that journal. It will also permit authors to submit the final manuscript to their funding agency’s preferred archive, if applicable. SAGE will post to PubMed Central (PMC) and its international equivalents, such as UKPMC or PMCI, on behalf of authors where their funder requires it. “Open access continues to be an important part of the publishing mix in the disciplines in which SAGE publishes,” said Tessa Picknett, Associate Director STM, SAGE. “We are committed to providing a flexible publishing model that supports our authors as well as our journals and society partners, and we will continue to review SAGE Open regularly, reviewing author feedback, and author needs in the future. SAGE’s policies regarding open access archiving remain unchanged. For full information about SAGE’s open access publishing visit http://www.uk.sagepub.com/sageopen.sp. |
