SAGE Consolidates Market Share
of Social Science Journals
in 2009 Journal Citation Reports®

Los Angeles, CA (July 2, 2010) – SAGE announced today that 31 Journals have been newly ranked in the latest Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports (JCR). SAGE’s overall market share of the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) increased to 11% (340 titles).

SAGE has consistently increased its JCR coverage each year, with overall growth of 144% over the past five years. The 2009 results show the breadth of high quality publications in the SAGE portfolio, particularly across all major social science disciplines.

SAGE remains the market leader (by number of titles) in 10 JCR categories, including Communication; Criminology & Penology; Political Science; Social Sciences, interdisciplinary; and Sociology. SAGE also publishes the no.1 ranked journals in Psychology, Social (Personality and Social Psychology Review); Education & Educational Research (Review of Educational Research); Family Studies (Child Maltreatment); Social Work (also Child Maltreatment); and History of Social Sciences (History of Psychiatry).

The company partners with some of the world’s leading societies and associations across the social sciences. The Journal of Management, published on behalf of the Southern Management Association, increased its impact factor to 4.429, ranking 5th in Management and 6th in Business. Three of the journals of the Association for Psychological Science (APS), published by SAGE since 2010, also achieved outstanding impact factors, including Perspectives On Psychological Science (7.508), which debuted this year at 4th in Psychology, Multidisciplinary.

"The social sciences are core to SAGE's history," said Ziyad Marar, Global Publishing Director, SAGE. "We're passionate advocates of the value of social science, and to publish several of the leading journals from the foremost societies and associations across these disciplines – and to see their continued recognition as part of these rankings – is incredibly rewarding."

SAGE's program in science, technology and medicine also continues to increase in strength, with 160 journals now ranked across these disciplines, including Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair, ranked no.1 in Rehabilitation with an impact factor of 5.398, and the Neuroscientist, with an impact factor of 6.079.

"These positive results reflect the hard work of all our editors, publishing teams and society partners to publish the highest quality research, and to ensure that research is widely disseminated," added Marar. "We aim to be the natural home for authors, editors, and societies, providing the very best support for their publishing and research."

2010 marks SAGE's 45 anniversary, and the company is reflecting on its longstanding commitment to the social sciences with a series of activities and events. For further information see www.sagepublications.com/45.
