London (May 4, 2010) - Fourteen of the world's leading experts in social and behavioural research methods were today named as the editorial board for SAGE Research Methods Online (SRMO)- an innovative online research tool launching in 2011.

  • The board members are:
  • Alan Bryman, University of Leicester,
  • Arlene Fink, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),
  • Graham Crow, University of Southampton,
  • Jason W. Osborne, North Carolina State University,
  • Janet Salmons, Capella University,
  • John Creswell, University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
  • John Scott, University of Plymouth,
  • Jörg Blasius, Universität Bonn,
  • Michael S. Lewis-Beck, University of Iowa,
  • Neil Salkind, University of Kansas,
  • Nigel Fielding, University of Surrey,
  • Nigel Gilbert, University of Surrey,
  • Paul Atkinson, Cardiff University,
  • Stewart Donaldson, Claremont Graduate University,

SRMO supports researchers and students with their selection and understanding of research methods in the social and behavioural sciences. Providing global advisory support during development, the editorial board will engage with various aspects of the product's design, functionality and content.

"Bringing on board leading researchers who have themselves engaged thoroughly with the challenges students, lecturers and researchers face when exploring research methods ensures that SRMO will provide a powerful and intuitive user experience," said Martha Sedgwick, Senior Business Development Manager, SAGE. "A number of board members have engaged informally with SAGE on the product for several months now, and we're delighted to be able to work more closely with all of the editorial board as we enter the core development phase."

At launch, SRMO will contain over 100,000 pages of SAGE's leading book and reference material on research methods, enhanced with editorially selected material from top SAGE journals. Delivered to its users through a sophisticated semantic search tool, content within SRMO will be discovered at the chapter level or reference entry, and supported with a sophisticated browsing tool to allow its users to explore related material hosted within the product.

Other core features within the product will include a visual 'methods map' exploring connections between more than 2,000 methods, theories, and terms; and a 'methods lists' function, which will enable users to store and share selected content.
