SAGE and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) are pleased to announce the second annual "SAGE Junior Faculty Professional Development Teaching Award" to be awarded to non-tenured faculty and doctoral level teaching assistants who meet eligibility criteria and show significant promise as teachers. The award is funded by an annual donation from SAGE as well as from royalties donated by participating SAGE authors.

This award, developed in partnership between SAGE, ACJS, and participating SAGE authors, was created to help defray the cost of attending the Annual ACJS Professional Development Teaching Workshop and ACJS Annual Meeting. The first of these workshops was offered at the 2009 Annual ACJS Meeting in Boston.

To be eligible for an award, the applicant must:

  1. be a current ACJS member at the time of application. Not a member? Join ACJS now.
    • Ten or more Award winners will receive travel reimbursement awards of an amount up to $700 to attend the 2010 meeting in San Diego.
  2. have received most recent graduate degree within the past 5 years
  3. have taught full time for less than 5 years.  There is no limit on part-time teaching experience
  4. be currently teaching in a criminal justice/criminology program at a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  5. be an untenured faculty member or doctoral level teaching assistant
  6. submit a complete electronic application by the due date

The deadline for receipt of the 2010 SAGE Junior Faculty Professional Development Teaching Award Application is August 1, 2009. Submit applications via email to Jay S. Albanese and Alida V. Merlo.

Winners will be notified via email and results will be posted at www.acjs.org. Inquiries about the selection process should be directed to Jay S. Albanese.
