Pandey, Nishchal

Nishchal N Pandey Director, Centre for South Asian Studies, Kathmandu

Nishchal Nath Pandey is currently Director of the Kathmandu-based Centre for South Asian Studies. Previously, he was Executive Director of the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) where he worked in different capacities for eight years (1998–2006). He was also a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), Singapore. He was Advisor to the National Planning Commission of Nepal (1995–97). At present, he is international research committee member of the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS), Colombo.

A well-known strategic analyst of Nepal, Pandey is the author of Nepal’s Maoist Movement and Implications for India and China and India’s North–Eastern Region: Insurgency, Economic Development and Linkages with South-East Asia. He co-edited Comprehensive Security in South Asia and has edited six other books on Nepal’s foreign policy, SAARC and regional cooperation in South Asia and trade facilitation.
