This is an exceptionally versatile textbook. It is easily accessible for students, covering a wide range of areas of and approaches to intercultural communication. The articulated focus on discourse and various areas related to language study (such as intercultural pragmatics) make this book stand out from similar texts. With highly relevant case studies and thought-provoking tasks, this is a key resource to equip undergraduates with a global mindset and those all-important people skills necessary in today’s workplaces.
Appreciate the diversity in cases and global mindset of the text.
excellent introduction for my globalisation course
This book is a light in the dark for me. It provides a very clear analysis of communication issues in our global society. The analysis of groups and sub-groups, rather than seeing culture as a national grouping is welcome and something students can relate to. An excellent book.
Many examples seem not fit for our teaching context (in Germany). I would like students to understand the examples of inter-cultural situations that they are directly confronted with in the first place. At an advanced level it can be interesting to look at situations from an other national/cultural perspective, but we don't get to dive in that deep into the subject timewise.
However, it is a great book! I am extremely content about the case studies and even more, about the suggestions for reflexion and activities (group works/interviews). Even though the book is not fit to adapt as a literature recommendation in our context, it is highly recommendable for any instructor who is keen on bringing students into action by using the suggestions made in the chapters.
