In securing and sustaining school and system improvement, teaching is a critically important contributory factor. The fourth edition of 'Effective Teaching: Evidence and Practice' is a timely reminder that the knowledge base about the best teaching practices is extensive and substantial. Therefore this book is an essential read and a significant resource for teachers, teacher educators, researchers and policy makers.
Effective Teaching: Evidence and Practice" is an impressively written and effectively organized textbook that digs into the research behind different aspects of teaching in order to provide an informed and informative understanding of what underpins high quality teaching. "Effective Teaching: Evidence and Practice" explores what the evidence shows about the effectiveness of different approaches, drawing from a variety of educational schools of thought.
It really captures the basic principles of making teaching effective and meaningful for young children
This is a clearly written and authoritative introduction to effective teaching, by two leading authors and researchers in their field. I can imagine myself and my students dipping into this repeatedly in the future, to look for up to date information about areas as diverse as effective classroom management and classroom climate, questioning skills and direct instruction.
This book tackles a number of issue important for teachers to think about when considering their own practice. It looks at the basic skills of learning and teaching, as well the frameworks that enable us to create safe, productive and effective learning environments. It is written in a clear style, with stimulating prompts for reflection at the end of each chapter. I would say it is a valuable text for student teachers and practising teachers alike.
A recommended read to those studying on the Foundation Degree in Educational Practice. This publication provides various topics to reflect upon in the classroom environment. Good ‘reflective points’ throughout the chapters to encourage the reader to reflect on their own teaching experiences to improve practice overall.
A very clearly written and comprehensive learning and teaching text book.
I like the 'think points' and the fact that answers to these are supplied at the back of the book. The reflective questions are useful to help teachers consider theory to practice. The content is written logically and enables the reader to interact with it. There's a good list of references to enable further research.
