I found this book is a reading especially useful for researchers who are starting to study and develop qualitative research. It allows readers to understand the theoretical groundings of qualitative approaches (2) and introduces qualitative analysis software (on this topic further reading is necessary). The organisation of the contents makes it easy to read (Key points, examples, summaries and student exercises). I have recommended the book to my students, as an introductory text to qualitative analysis.

This latest edition is a valuable and timely addition to the wealth of existing literature about research methodologies. It is made up of 6 parts with each beginning with an overview of the topic followed by detailed and relevant information about each sub-topic. It is well written and designed to reach a wider audience. Part 3 consists of the additional material to the first edition. In this part the author refers to newer qualitative approaches which includes among others, ‘poetic inquiry’ and ‘ethnodrama and performative art’.
A good introduction to a range of approaches to qualitative data analysis, covering both traditional and more recent techniques. Each approach is discussed in relation to research philosophy, theory, design and practice. I have recommended the book to my students, as an introductory text to qualitative analysis.
Very good text, that provides a comprehensive introduction to qual. data analysis. Covers a range of both traditional and newer approaches as well as coding and basic NVivo. Written in an accessible format that students should be able to use effectively to learn from. It goes into a lot more detail than many books with 'an introduction' in their title. Highly recommended.

Qualitative Data Analysis is an excellent text which introduces not only qualitative methods, but the philosophical orientations of qualitative methodologies. It is an ideal text for Masters and PhD students who are beginning to think independently about methodological approaches and methods. In particular in Part 3 it offers a range of contemporary approaches to qualitative research which takes account of influences on changes in social life.

A very complete and informative book. For our students it goes too much into detail, but for our researching colleagues and doctorate students it offers a good overview of backgrounds and methods of qualitative data analysis.
