Most teacher training courses start with the subject matter of teaching and then add on the standards where appropriate. This book shows a more innovative way of starting with the teaching standards and unpicking these by definition and reference to the trainee's own experiences in the 'Reflections' sections of the book. The 'professional studies' elements are then pulled into the debate. Students who study this book will have a more comprehensive view of how the teaching standards relate to both their training and their teaching.This would also prove a useful source of reference for newly Qualified Teachers in their first year of teaching.

Very easy to read.
Helpful guide to understand how to apply the standards/ useful classroom based examples.
Good references to the New National Curriculum.
I like the comparisons made with expectations of trainees/professionals in other professions.
Useful questions in each chapter to help trainees reflect on specific areas.
