This book provides an accessible overview of relevant concepts in the area of learning disabilities. This supports student's understandiing of learning disability and will enable them to adopt appropriate practicies when working with people with additional needs.
This book covers a range of factors and life situations affecting those with learning difficulties such as employment, friendship, rights etc. As such it would be a helpful book for those interested in reading about the wider issues connected with learning difficulties but it does not cover specific additional support needs or difficulties in enough detail.
Although there's a good range of issues covered it doesn't have enough information on the topics covered in my module. It would still be a useful resource for learning disability nursing students.
This book is very user-friendly, it enables the reader to search for information related to interests with just the term required.
Once the reader comes to the term they want to read further then then are given "bite-size" information which is well referenced and good links to further reading.
A good resource for students and clinicians alike. Giving them a handy resource which can be used to reinforce existing knowledge or give the experienced practitioner the opportunity to reflect on evidence.
A very useful text to supplement reading for Learning Disability Nursing students. A place to refer back to and directed to by lecturers. An opportunity to 'find' the key topic and then go on to read in more depth
Very user friendly book for student nurses
A superb text to accompany the L2 Award in Supporting People with Learning Disabilities. It will also be a text I recommend to higher level learners on courses in the future. Each concept is dealt with very clearly and the case-studies put the concepts in context.
Easy and interesting to read
Extremely useful book for practitioners, students and lecturers.
On page 3 there is a section 'how to use the book'. This is useful as it enables the reader to tailor the book to meet their needs or circumstances.
Some excellent case studies and ideas, which has helped me to reflect on my own practice. Would recommend to tutors already working in the sector for further reading and to students wanting to work with learning disabilities.
This is invaluable for people who are planning to teach learners with specific difficulties.
Excellent- clear links between theory and practice evidenced through case studies and clear links to legislation and policy guielines and key papers. A must for this new award.
Easy to read, covers a variety of key themes. Good as a quick reference, although not in great detail
This is a user-friendly book with introductory information across a wide range of concepts in learning disability studies. Useful as a handbook to dip in and out of.
A really helpful entry point into issues in Learning Disabilities with overview of key concepts and signposts for deeper reading and understanding. Would be useful for those beginning a career in LD as an introduction, or a reference point for others in health and social care who may require more of an overview of specific topics.
This is one of two texts recommended on our new course because of it's underpinning values
For students unfamiliar with the area the book had essential information in an easy format. It would compliment the student's understanding especially if they were on a related nursing or social science course without overwhelming them. It a good book to dip in and out of to enhance understanding of the field.
An up to date and useful resource bringing together relevant information for practitioners from a variety of health and social care backgrounds.
Wil recommend this book for supplementary reading to the students studying on the Inclusive Education module on the BA Education Studies programme.
