This comprehensive volume is recommended for all prospective PGCE applicants who are now required to have passed the skills tests prior to enrolment. As with the independent subject publications, the text is succinct with well explained worked examples enabling users to gain confidence as well as competence prior to booking a test. Additional support material and clear advice with regard to considering and applying for an ITT programme makes this ideal suggested reading for enquirers.
This book will support applicants to our PGCE course, leading them through the skills tests and giving clear guidance on how to pass.
This book is an excellent source of support for ITE for FE teachers. Lots of good advice about the skills tests but more importantly lots of advice that will transfer to classroom practice - allowing trainees to help improve their own learners' skill levels.
I will recommend this book because it is up to date and because it covers both literacy & numeracy skills tests. It explains coherently what the tests are for. It shows how rigorous they are and why they are important - showing how they impact practice even if not in the trainee's specialist area. Everything a potential ITT trainee needs to know is covered. and shows it is more than just about passing the tests. My trainees are in the Early Years sector. The basic and fundamental skills which lie within Literacy (e.g. Phonics) and numeracy (e.g problem solving) are examples.
Key texts for prospective ITT students in preparation for the professional skills tests.
