Venture Capital Investments gives a fundamental understanding of various aspects of venture capital covering the nature of investments, deal evaluation, structure, economics and fundraising. It discusses the challenges a venture capitalist faces right from raising funds to evaluating a potential deal and exit valuation. The book begins by covering the difference between the private market and the public market. Finally, it discusses fund economics and fund structure in venture capital firms. The book will be a helpful read for entrepreneurs who want to get into the shoes of a venture capitalist and understand how they valuate a firm or a start-up. It will also be an informative read for the aspiring venture capitalists who are interested to enter the venture capital market.
The book is informative, focuses on fundamentals of venture capital investments. It is easy to follow and helps grasp basic and practical concepts about venture capital investments.
The authors have written a prolific piece on the Indian venture capital market that will help students, academicians and practitioners alike. It helps understand this nascent and burgeoning segment with extensive examples. It approaches the venture business holistically and has cradle to grave coverage of the entire deal life cycle including the fund business. A must-read!
What I liked in Venture Capital Investments is the flow of the chapters. Each chapter seamlessly and logically flows into the next and ensures a reader (technical or non-technical) understands the concepts completely. After my previous company exits and current company (funded by leading VC’s), this was a refreshing read and allowed me to brush-up my concepts!
This book will provide an opportunity for inventors and innovators to motivate and expand the scope of start-up businesses in India and other emerging economies. As a primer, the contents are digestible to readers having no previous background in business management, start-up or otherwise. I would strongly recommend the book to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) practitioners.
“Aspiring entrepreneurs and students wanting to learn about the funding aspects of starting up can find a useful overview in the compact book.”
“The book would interest even an untutored reader as it explains how venture capitalists zero in on innovative ideas that are game- changers... a quick and compact course on the fundamentals of venture capital.”
