Vinicius Carreira
Vice President, Pathobiology, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine
Vinicius (Vini) Carreira, (DVM, PhD, DACVP, DABT), received his DVM degree from São Paulo Methodist University, Brazil (2007), completed his anatomic pathology residency at Michigan State University (2011) and earned his PhD in Toxicology from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio (2015). A Diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Pathology (2011) and American Board of Toxicology (2016), Vini is currently the Vice President, Global Head of Pathobiology, at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, San Diego, California, where he oversees a global team of immunotoxicologists, scientists, pathologists and laboratories that deliver decision-driving data in support of discovery and development of pharmaceuticals. Under his leadership, the team strategically and collaboratively drives drug discovery and development projects by providing scientific input in the design, conduct, and interpretation of experiments that focus on characterizing the safety of transformational therapeutics and/or understanding mode(s) of action for efficacy and toxicity in nonclinical studies. A highly active member of STP, Vini has served on multiple STP committees and initiatives, including the Annual Symposium, Awards, Career Development and Outreach (CDOC), and Internet Committees, serving as Chair of the CDOC Committee and Chair of CDOC Student Interactions Subcommittee and ToxPathNet Internet subcommittees. He is also a Founder and past chair of the STP Molecular Pathology SIG and member of four additional SIGs. Vini is a Councilor with the CTPVSS SOT, serves on the C.L. Davis-Thompson Foundation Board of Directors, and previously as their Editor-in-Chief of Diagnostic Exercises for more than a decade. He has extensive contributions to the peer-reviewed scientific literature including speaking at many workshops, symposia, and STP scientific sessions.
