Hybrid subscription
Sage offers the option of publishing your research subscription paywalled or to publish your research Open Access in either a hybrid or Open Access journal. Sage supports Green Open Access archiving for authors publishing in traditional subscription journals.
Open Access publishing options
At Sage we support many different types of Open Access publishing options, to make it as simple and straightforward as possible for you to find a route to publish Open Access.
Publishing Open Access means your research can be read and shared by all, without paywall barriers, and presents an excellent opportunity for your work to reach a wider audience.
Fully (Gold) Open Access journals
Publish in fully Open Access journals where all articles are free to read for an article processing charge
Hybrid Open Access (Sage Choice)
Publish Open Access in hybrid subscription journals for an article processing charge
Sage Subscribe to Open
Subscribe to Open (S2O) is an approach to converting subscription journals to open access. It is an alternative subscription model which enables libraries to use their collections budgets to support open access publishing. Existing library customers are asked to continue to subscribe every year, and if all subscriptions are renewed, that year's content is published open access.
Sage Community Open Access
Sage Community Open Access (Community OA) is a new initiative fromSage to advance OA equity, particularly in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Sage Community OA journals will publish on a fully open access basis, at no cost to authors or readers.Community OA journals will be funded by a combination of existing revenue diverted from Sage’s Open Access agreements, other sponsoring partners, and Sage.
Open Access funding options
Many funding bodies and institutions require that the work they support is made publicly available through a suitable repository. Sage’s Open Access publishing program, Open Access agreements and author archiving policies allow our authors to comply with the various requirements stipulated by the major funding bodies or an author's institution.
