Open Access agreements

When publishing your work Open Access, your institution may be able to help you cover the article processing charge (APC). Through Sage’s open access agreements, authors benefit from streamlined pathways to publish their work openly, ensuring wider dissemination and long‑term accessibility. Sage has over 90 active agreements, supporting researchers at more than 2,000 institutions in over 35 countries. These agreements are established in close collaboration with libraries, consortia, and research organisations, enabling institutions to meet open access objectives. Authors are supported throughout the publishing process, with clear guidance on eligibility, compliance, and funding arrangements. By participating in Sage’s open access programmes, institutions strengthen their commitment to transparent, high‑impact scholarship.

Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL)

Sage has an agreement with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) to publish articles open access across many different regions. To qualify for the agreement, the corresponding author must be affiliated with an eligible institution in an EIFL country.

IOS Press titles

The eligibility of IOS Press titles for Sage open access agreements will be subject to their inclusion in the relevant Sage package. In most cases this means that IOS Press titles are eligible for Sage open access agreements, but authors should check the eligible titles list hosted on each agreement page by country to confirm.

Mary Ann Liebert titles

Starting in 2026, Mary Ann Liebert titles have their own package, Liebert Premier which means they are not included in Sage packages, and authors publishing in a Mary Ann Liebert journal acquired by Sage are not, therefore, eligible for Sage’s open access agreements. Information on any Mary Ann Liebert open access agreements that provide eligibility in the Mary Ann Liebert acquired titles will be provided alongside Sage agreements on our open access agreement by country pages.

The exception to this is the Sage life sciences and medical journals Sage committed to publishing under the Mary Ann Liebert name. These titles remain in Sage packages, including Sage Premier, in the same way as before. This means authors publishing in the following rebranded titles remain eligible for Sage open access agreements, unchanged from before. Please see here for included titles.
